if you approach from Ashurst's Beacon, avoid the drop in the tree roots by walking slightly to the left and there is a much safer path. having crossed the bridge and walked to the end of the path there is now a homemade rope which is helpful when access is needed to Longheys lane. it is a personal choice!

Nice local wood for a wander. If youโre local then check it out. If youโre not local then youโll be disappointed if you made a trip to specifically visit Ruff Wood

Nice little Climb by Ashhurst and the country park further down. Nice little cottages and an equestrian further to the bottom.

"St. Jamesโ Church was consecrated by the Bishop of Chester on 19th August 1851. It was the first and is still the only church in Westhead and Lathom. Originally known as St James Lathom the parish is now called St James Westhead to avoid confusion with Lathom Park Chapel, which was connected to Lathom House". The beacon tower was built in 1798 by Sir William Ashurst. It was built as a watch tower to warn of a French invasion. At 172m you get lovely Lancashire countryside views!
