Tips from the Community

Wojciech Winnik
August 18, 2026, Asphalt Path Section Between Mikoszewo and Drewnica

I do not recommend this section at this time of year (mid-August) at dusk due to the huge number of flying insects. I haven't seen so many tiny midges in a long time! It's difficult to ride even with glasses, and unthinkable without them. You absolutely have to ride with your mouth closed, breathing through your nose, with your head down. If I had had a stocking with me, I would have put it on my head to fend off the attack of insects getting into my eyes, ears, and nose. WW

Bicycle path with smooth asphalt and beautiful views from the embankment.

The church building in half-timbered style in Sobieszewo (Bohnsack), was forcibly expropriated in 1947 in favor of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland. In 1985 it burned down and was subsequently rebuilt in the same location in a modern architectural style. A figure of the "Weeping Mother of God" is venerated in the church, which was brought here in 1961 from Dębowiec. In the cemetery, old German gravestones of Protestant church elders can still be found today. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sobieszewo

A beautifully made bike route. It leads to the top of the flood embankment. A view of the Vistula and the wild floodplains below the embankment. A beautiful place for a bike. Note - check the weather forecast before setting off (especially the wind speed - because it can blow quite hard here.) 😁 At the beginning of the route (on Sobieszewska Island) you can park your car (there is a small parking lot).

If you come from the Gdańsk side, two hundred meters further, at the turn of the bike path, there will be a stop with gazebos, benches and a grill.

A resting place with benches and a shelter and a view of the Vistula. Right next to it, a ferry to Sobieszewska Island departs.

April 15, 2025, Przegalina Lock

The Przegalina Lock is an impressive hydrotechnical structure located on the Martwa Wisła River in Gdańsk, connecting it with the Przekop Wisły. Built in 1891–1895, the lock enables navigation between the Martwa Wisła River and the Przekop Wisły, overcoming the difference in water levels. The facility consists of two chambers: the old, currently inactive, and the new, put into service in 1983, which is one of the largest locks in Poland. For road cyclists, the lock is an interesting point on the route through Żuławy Wiślane.
