December 23, 2024, Picnic and Rest Area by the Canoe

Quite unexpectedly, there was a small wooden hut in this bend... similar in size to the outhouses🚻toilets that were known in Germany in the past (before the sewer system). The mini hut was locked, but behind it, in the shade of the surrounding trees, there was a table and bench combination, which we liked to use for a little rest after the climb in full sun. We will definitely visit this highlight again... next time maybe with a little food to have a little picnic in this beautiful place. The flat stones can also be used as a place to lie down for sunbathing. This may even be a place specially created for hiking tours⁉️I haven't seen any sign yet... but you never know 🤷‍♀️ #restplace #picnicplace #hotstones

Bass Lake is a popular spot for running, hiking and boating. There are great views of the lake from the roads that follow the banks of the lake. The lake was created when the Crane Valley Dam was constructed across Willow Creek.

Bring extra socks and shoes. Find a good stone to stuff in your shoe for weight to huck it across the creek!

Angel Falls is one of two waterfalls in this area. The Willow Creek cascades over some slick rock, carving a little gorge into the rock. Another waterfall is Devil's Slide further north of here. Ultimately, Willow Creek flows into Bass Lake.

After descending from the Moon Rock dome cross the forest road straight onto a very faint single track: Mary Jane trail, a 1.5 mile very steep rocky section. Good breaks and tires are essential. Careful: The rock face on Mary Jane is hairy if wet, and one section often is wet. The trail ends at North Fork Willow Creek. The big tree that formed a natural bridge has washed away in the 2017 snowmelt flood, so now you'll get wet feet; it's safest to ford the creek at the sandy beach with the shallowest wide section. https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/5135164/mary-jane
