With the Ordinance for the Execution of the Court Constitution Act of May 17, 1879, ten district courts (including the Neustrelitz District Court) were established. The district court was one of the three larger courts in the regional court district. In the GDR, the district courts were dissolved in 1952 and uniform district courts were formed. Neustrelitz belonged to the Neustrelitz district, where the Neustrelitz District Court was established. After the collapse of the GDR, the Neustrelitz District Court was a court of ordinary jurisdiction of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the district of the Neubrandenburg Regional Court. Due to the judicial structure reform, the Neustrelitz District Court was abolished on February 02, 2015, and converted into a branch of the Waren (Müritz) District Court.
