February 5, 2024, Patriot Trail

In the hills above southern Orange County, you’ll find an abundance of trails for hikers and mountain bikers alike in the San Juan Capistrano Recreational Trail System. One of the more popular trails because of its stunning views and flagpole at the end is Patriot Trail, which is also called the 'Rollercoaster Trail' because of the many ups and downs.

February 5, 2024, Patriots Hill Summit

Patriots Hill overlooks the ocean, the rolling grassland, and the local urban area. To get to the top of the hill, take the wide, compact dirt/gravel trail called Patriot Trail, also nicknamed Rollercoaster Trail. You will know when you have reached the top because there is a tall American flag marking the peak.

Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park includes over 4,500 acres of untouched wilderness and natural areas. A lot of the "roads" in the park are smooth double-track paths, and there is a fair bit of singletrack as well.

T Street Beach is the place to be if you like to surf or bodyboard (or even if you just like to watch). There is access to the sandy beach right off the side of the San Clemente Beach Trail.

Mountains' Lookout is at the end of Ancestor's Trail and has a nice view over the San Clemente Hills. Ancestor's Trail is a hard-packed dirt trail, and a large American flag marks the lookout point.
