July 21, 2026, Walter Bean Grand River Trailhead

The Walter Bean Grand River Trailhead is the perfect spot to start or end a hike on either the Grand Trunk Trail or the Grand River Trail. There are maps, trash cans and a dirt parking area here, and sometimes a porta-potty, but that is not always available.

The TH&B Trail crosses Oakland Road, a paved road just east of the town of Scotland. If you head into town, there's one restaurant and one bakery to refuel at.

This little garden sits right along the rail trail by the old station and has a ton of great information for kids. Signs describe the local wildlife, hibernating snakes, raptors, bugs, and challenge kids to find as many different bird species as possible from an illustrated list. There are some benches where you can rest and enjoy the flora.

June 17, 2026, Main Loop

The Main Loop starts at the Sulphur Springs Train Station and loops through a hemlock grove and past the Hermitage Ruins. Hiking counter-clockwise tackles the steeper climbs instead of descending them. This trail is shared by hikers, trail runners, gravel cyclists, and horseback riders, and has quite a bit of shade but does pass sunny open meadows.

The Sulphur Springs Train Station is a well-preserved historical train stop. Take a look at old trains and enjoy a Trail Information Centre with restrooms, covered picnic benches, bike lock area and drinking fountain. There's even a little ice cream shop. The old, red Victorian building has been used on TV shows, so if it looks familiar you may have seen it before.

June 12, 2026, Schneider Creek

Schneider Creek winds through Kitchener, flowing past neighbourhoods, parks, and natural areas before it reaches the Grand River. Paths and green spaces follow sections of the creek, with mature trees, small bridges, and quiet pockets of nature creating peaceful places to pause along the water. Although it passes through urban areas, some sections feel surprisingly calm, with birds and other wildlife often spotted nearby.

April 16, 2026, Grand Trunk Trail

The Grand Trunk Trail follows along the Grand River from south Cambridge. The trail is very well-maintained packed gravel and open to both hiking and biking. Some short sections, like the tunnel section, are paved. As you enjoy this scenic trail, take the occasional look over the cliff toward the river to see rock formations and old abandoned structures.
