The sanctuary is located on the summit of a mountain, Mont, and enjoys privileged views over the Empordà plain and the mountains of Alta Garrotxa and the southern slopes of the Girona Pyrenees. The adjoining church dates from the late Romanesque period, built in the early 14th century, with a pointed barrel vault. In the 18th century, an inn was built, famous for having hosted the poet Jacint Verdaguer, who wrote one of his most famous poems here, "Canigó" (a mountain in the Pyrenees visible from here). In 2008, a public subscription funded a two-meter-high bronze statue of the poet. The inn currently operates as a restaurant and hotel.

The sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Mont is located on the peak of the Sierra del Mont, at an altitude of 1,124 metres. Next to the sanctuary we find the statue of Jacint Verdaguer and an incredible viewpoint to appreciate the landscape that surrounds the mountain, from the Empordà plain, the Alta Garrotxa to the southern slopes of the Pyrenees.

Itinerary signposted by Itinerànnia and the Mont half marathon that passes under the cliffs of Rocapastora and leads to the Roman tower of Falgars. Although it has some sections that are difficult to follow due to the lack of a clear path and the difficulty of seeing the yellow signs, it is a very interesting route to climb the Virgen del Mont, as it allows you to pass through the tower of Falgars and finish the ascent by the way of the shade that comes from Falgars. Keep in mind that the ascent of the cliff of Rocapastora is by a kind of grade equipped with ropes that, in dry weather, has no problem but if the rock is wet or muddy ground can be dangerous. Under normal conditions it is a climb with no more hassle than finding places to grab and no need to make use of the ropes installed.
