This beech forest is located on the north face of the Jian mountain range, right on the southern edge of the Picos de Europa Natural Park, in the Province of León. It is accessed by going up from Polvoredo, following the course of the Becenes stream. From there we reach the so-called “Puerta del Zalambral” (Zalambral Gate), in the Jian pass, located between the peaks of Pando de Becenes and Pico de Valdegarcía. The Zalambral beech forest is described as a fairytale forest, isolated and almost secret on the southern edge of the Picos de Europa National Park. Upon crossing the so-called Puerta del Zalambral, the traveler feels they are entering a hidden and remote place that impresses with its wild character and the absence of mass tourism. The occasional fog, the stream's source, and the valley's silence reinforce that mystical and timeless atmosphere.
