The site is beautiful and well documented. A beautiful shelter built for the excavation teams allows you to take a break in the shelter if the weather is acting up 😉

Access to the hole is under a hatch on the catwalk, then you have to go down via a metal ladder. We find ourselves during the descent facing the combe, it's quite dizzying!!! And magnificent !!! Be careful not to get stuck with your backpacks, it is safer to leave them upstairs.

The Well "Currant" takes its name from the currant bushes growing naturally in this part of the forest of Arcenant, The combe de la Serrée, where the Well "Currant" is located, was formed in land dating from the Secondary Era . The Middle Jurassic limestones cracked under the influence of erosion and temperature variations, favoring the formation of a karstic network. Runoff water seeped into these cracks, gradually creating underground galleries, the main one being 515 meters long. A stream guided by impermeable clay layers flows under the wood from Montmain to the source of the Raccordon. In times of heavy rain, the waters of the Well "Currant" leave their underground galleries and borrow an aerial bed which joins the Raccordon at the site of La Douan

From the 2nd century AD, this Gallo-Roman site was open to the public. Located in the forest of Arcenant, it was discovered in the 1980s. It is a small but important establishment which served as a relay at the junction of a main road.
