Hiking
This circular hike (marking: Nk3) takes you to several wonderful viewpoints and rustic huts on the Hohenbogen. At the starting point in Neukirchen am Heiligen Blut, we recommend visiting the interesting pilgrimage museum. Then you hike past Neukirchen legend boards with themed benches, death boards, a Way of St. James stele and a rest area with a fountain up to the forestry service hut. After a first break, you go uphill on a steep path.
You hike over the Farrenruck and the Bärenriegel to the Eckstein, the highest point of the tour at 1,073 meters. You then reach the mountain station of the Hohenbogenbahn with a mountain hut and a wonderful panoramic view of the Bavarian Forest on a ridge. Panorama boards provide information about the surrounding mountains.
You can take the chairlift down to the valley and thus shorten the descent. Otherwise, continue to the Schönblick inn and then down into the valley on the Baierweg. After a total of 15 kilometers you are back at the starting point.
Places to stop along the route include the Berghaus Hohenbogen, the Haus Schönblick, the Liftstüberl and the forestry service hut.

Home is home. I'm back in my old hometown for a few days. Visiting my aunt and cousins. But of course, I also have to make time for a hike. And this tour was a challenge. We went over hill and dale and scree up to the chairlift. Of course, we didn't ski down, we walked down. Again, over scree.
Enjoy a round of the Bavarian Forest again. Thanks to the community for sharing the route, it was once again very worthwhile. From the monastery through fields and forests to the former NATO monitoring station and back on the other side. Very good hiking trails, but sturdy shoes are advisable. In the lower area you can already see that spring is not far away, but from an altitude of approx. 700m winter has shown again how dangerous it can be. In places it was really very slippery and I should have packed my junk better. Well, if you don't want to drag, you have to feel 😅 #ATTENTION# There are said to be people who only want to do this tour to go to the viewing platform on the summit, who should be told: This is closed indefinitely for maintenance work. Details can be found in the pictures and probably also on the homepage. Everyone else should have fun on this beautiful tour through cozy, rustic forests. With a lot of variety in the landscape & vegetation and don't overlook the signs with the legends, these are nicely written and offer additional variety. 🤓
A strenuous ascent is rewarded with a stop at the Schönblick mountain hut with a wonderful view. Unfortunately the viewing platform of the former NATO listening post Communications Sector F was closed for maintenance.
Challenging, mostly shady circular hike on the Hohenbogen on mostly stony and rooty forest paths and trails, some rustic trails with several steep sections and great panoramic views of the mountains of the Bavarian Forest as well as over the Further Senke and far into the Bohemian region. PS: There are wonderful views from the Haus Schönblick, from the summit of the Ahornriegel with a beautiful view from the balcony terrace of the Berghaus Hohenbogen at the chairlift mountain station, a special panoramic view opens up from the viewing platform of the Nato tower on the Eckstein. Stations: Leisure center on the Hohenbogen (valley station of the chairlift): steep climb over WW NK 3; Berggasthof Schönblick with viewing terrace; Mountain chapel on the Amiplatzl; Ahornriegel (Berghaus Hohenbogen next to the chairlift mountain station and a large summit cross); Schwarzriegel; Eckstein with NATO towers (one of them with a fabulous panoramic view from the viewing platform, accessible via a spiral staircase since 2014; Maxfelsen viewing point; Detour to Bärenriegel (short rock climb); Muldenebene with shelter; Farrenruck; (Forestry) service hut Hohenbogen with the Peter and Paul chapel; Schmidtriegel; old hunters' path; finally we went back on the so-called "legend path" (from the object with the goat) with legend information boards (stories) about the Hohen Bogen and the carved, matching wooden objects and benches for relaxing.
over the ridge of the "Hohen Bogen" to the former Sector-F Nato Station (1079m) ------------------------------ 🌲Bavarian Forest🌲 ------------------------------ https://sector-f.de / https://gipfelsteig.de ------------------------------ Sorry for the many pictures from the viewing platform, but due to the rain coming up and the constantly changing motifs, I just had to upload everything. ;-) ------------------------------ "Lamer Winkel - hiking pin" SummitLynx stamp offices: > Hohenbogen mountain railway (20 points) > Summit Trail viewing platform (50 points) > Cornerstone (150 points) > Service Hut - High Arch (50 points) ------------------------------
