Ye Olde Tavern

Highlight • Historical Site

When a pub is named Ye Olde Tavern, you know to expect timeless charm, real ale and a friendly welcome. This lovely, Grade-II listed country pub is handily located to provide fortification for visiting hikers. As well as beautiful walking in the surrounding countryside, the Offa's Dyke Path, the Herefordshire Trail and the Mortimer Trail all pass through Kington.

The pub was built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and was originally called the House in the Fields. When trains arrived in Kington, it changed to the Railway Tavern, before changing to Ye Olde Tavern in 1964 when the railway closed. It won the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) title of best Herefordshire pub in 2009.

The Stagg Inn, Titley

Highlight • Settlement

Titley is a gorgeous village in the north west of Herefordshire. Its location close to the uplands along the Welsh border means there are some great walking routes in the surrounding countryside, such as a hike to the summit of nearby Bradnor Hill at 1,283 feet (391 m).

There are rooms at the Stagg Inn, as well as excellent food. It was the first pub in the UK to be awarded a Michelin Star.

Stocking Wood

Highlight • Forest

Stocking Wood occupies the north facing flank of an upland area comprising Herrock, Rushock and Bradnor Hills. Walkers on the Mortimer Trail skirt along its western edge, beyond which a wooded escarpment falls steeply to the valley carved out by Hindwell Brook. There are some lovely views across the valley towards the border with Wales, where more wooded hills rise, including Burfa Bank, the site of an ancient hillfort.

October 11, 2025,Kington to Titley junction via Bradnor Green.
Varried and interesting walk,
Up to the highest golf course in England, crossing Offas Dyke, through several fields where the farmer had hidden/altered the footpath including one field where we were part way over and the farmer had placed electric fences blocking the way.
Onto Titley junction which is a fascinating glimpse into our steam heritage, although sadly now closed …
