This route was planned by komoot.
The trailhead for the Cala Fuili to Cala Luna Trail is located at Cala Fuili. You can usually find parking available near the beach area, which serves as the starting point for the hike.
This is considered a moderately challenging hike, requiring good fitness and sure-footedness. The terrain is rocky and uneven, with sections of dirt, loose rocks, and tree roots. The initial half-hour is often cited as the most demanding, and the descent to Cala Luna can be steep and narrow. It's not recommended as an easy stroll.
The trail is open year-round during daylight hours. However, the best times to hike are during the shoulder seasons (spring and autumn) to avoid the intense midday summer heat and larger crowds. Early mornings or late afternoons are also ideal for a more pleasant experience.
The trail itself is generally accessible for dogs, but you should be aware of the rocky and uneven terrain, which might be challenging for some pets. It's crucial to keep dogs on a leash and ensure they are well-hydrated, as there are no water sources along the route. Check local regulations regarding dogs on Cala Luna beach itself, as rules can vary.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Cala Fuili to Cala Luna Trail. It is freely accessible to the public.
As this trail is located within the Parco Nazionale del Golfo di Orosei e del Gennargentu, hikers are expected to follow general park regulations. This includes staying on marked paths, not disturbing wildlife or plants, carrying out all trash, and refraining from making fires. Always respect the natural environment.
Beyond the stunning coastal views, you'll pass by the Nuraghe Mannu archaeological site. The trail also offers glimpses of natural caves and the beautiful Mediterranean scrub. The ultimate reward is the crescent-shaped Cala Luna beach with its distinctive sea caves.
No, there are no facilities like restrooms or cafes, nor are there any reliable water sources directly along the trail. Hikers must be self-sufficient and carry ample water, especially during warmer months, as well as any snacks or supplies they might need.
Yes, many hikers choose to hike one way to Cala Luna and then take a boat back to Cala Fuili or Cala Gonone. This offers a different perspective of the coastline and helps avoid the return hike, which can be particularly strenuous in the heat. Boat services typically operate from Cala Gonone.
Yes, the route largely follows the official trail B162 - Parcheggio Fuili - Cala Luna for about 71% of its length. It also briefly intersects with the Cuile Toddeito e Grotta trail for a small section.
Due to the rocky, uneven paths, potential for steep sections, and lack of facilities or shade, the trail might be difficult for very young children. It requires good fitness and sure-footedness, making it less ideal for an easy family stroll with toddlers.
Based on tour 6 from @Sergej K.'s link: https://www.bergwelten.com/a/sardinien-9-avielfalte-wandertouren 6. From Caletta Fuili to Cala Luna: Highlights: • the fantastically beautiful bay "Cala Ziu Santoru" • rock caves on the way to "Cala Luna" • fantastic views of the Gulf of Orosei → We preferred to climb down to the paradisiacal "Spiaggia Ziu Santoru" (warning: only suitable for those who are confident climbers! ...but then it's super cool 🤩) and explored all the grottos on the right and left on the way. (We were already in the somewhat overcrowded "Cala Luna" by boat on the first day 😎)
Decent hiking boots are a prerequisite! The path is varied, the small piece from the main path to Cala leads over high rocks. Unfortunately you cannot swim here. The umbrella on Google Maps is out of place. Whether the distance is correct is questionable, the total time was 4 1/2 hours with a short break.
Easy route but on a rocky path and very bumpy in places
