Blea Tarn

Highlight • Viewpoint

One of the quintessential Lake District views is Blea Tarn backed by the impressive knobbled skyline of the Langdale Pikes. The tarn is an excellent wild swim spot, while you can easily link it with a hike to Lingmoor Fell, a charming outing.

Side Pike

Highlight • Summit

It says this is an easy walk in komoot. This is totally wrong. You need mountain experience and equipment. Nothing for a family afternoon walk.

Lingmoor Fell summit

Highlight • Natural Monument

Lingmoor Fell (Brown How summit) is a 1,540-foot (469 m) Wainwright Fell in the Lake District National Park. I've hiked it 'up the wall' from the north-west and also from the winding trails to the south-east from Little Langdale. It's a great little fell with really impressive views of the Langdale Pikes and a stunning quintessentially English dry stone wall which runs across its length.

September 1, 2024, A Wainwright Walk on Lingmoor Fell ⛰️#mypurposefuladventure

This beautiful walk starts at Blea Tarn and takes you through the SSSI (Site of Specific Scientific Interest), taking in the surrounding fells before heading up Side Pike and continuing up to summit the Wainwright, Lingmoor Fell. We took this walk much slower, being mindful to slow down and stop to enjoy the surrounding flora and geology. The hills were brimming with purple heather, which was just coming out of season as we approach the Autumn months. Along the route we spotted a herd of young Herdwick Sheep 🐑 known for living amongst the difficult terrain in the Lake District. We found some mushrooms growing in the alpine forest area next to Blea Tarn and even a tiny toad up on Lingmoor Fell 🐸 We tried to make a positive impact on our day out by collecting any rubbish we came across, which surprisingly wasn't as much as I expected to find. We sadly saw multiple scorch marks in the ground from fires next to Blea Tarn 🥺 which just makes the @Trash Free Trails message even more important to leave places better than when you found them.

A small hike that Komoot describes as easy and executable for everyone. That is very wrong, because some climbing with hands is required, especially if you still take the side pike with you. through tw. very steep passages, the recorded duration is also completely wrong. Normally fit hikers should estimate 1.5 - 2 hours. In any case, the tour is not boring, with beautiful views in all directions.

The climb is very steep and the grass/ferns are sometimes very slippery with morning dew or after rain. You have to climb a bit at times, so it's definitely not "easy" as the description says, but it's worth it. The view of Blea Tarn and Langdale is great.
