A tranquil natural pond and the tranquil St. Martin's Chapel 🏡 invite you to pause for a moment. The trail leads up to Ehrenberg, past the Reulbacher Kreuz, to a vantage point that surprises with a spectacular view. After the descent, another highlight awaits: the Ehrenberg selfie point – Heart of the Rhön, before a relaxing return to the starting point at the church in Wüstensachsen. A varied extra tour with magnificent views, quiet moments, and authentic Rhön nature. So simply: Start, slow down, and enjoy. 😇

Really premium, this extra tour! Curse and blessing at the same time: gastronomy along the way? Zero, nada, nothing. Sturdy shoes are a must, especially in the Schafstein area. That at least keeps the flip-flop faction away (hopefully) 😃😃😃

Last appointment in desert Saxony, mountain girl in the Allgäu and the other is already up at half past ten to the WaKu ⛰ 😳. What do I do?🤔 Ah, the Ehrenberger! 🚶🏻 ♀️ I'm already there! 😃 The day after tomorrow, on 8.10. Incidentally, it will be officially inaugurated and opened. Then a call came: "I'm separating from my husband 😂 at the Fulda spring and walking over to the Schafstein and we'll meet there" Yeah 🙃 Say, I walked the tour around so that I came to the Schafstein first (it's also the nicer one direction to look!). Absolutely good timing, my girlfriend arrived with me almost at the same time. Together from then on🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️. Beautiful trails and beautiful views! The 6 information boards along the route explain the various Rhön conditions and the vegetation and animal husbandry. If you turn the hurdy-gurdy crank on the round yellow things, you will be informed about that time with audio recordings, some of them from original Rhön veterans 😊. Everything is lovingly made and designed! The many sun loungers invite you to linger. You have to be careful that you don't just lie around 😂 instead of hiking. During the break at the Martinskapelle, two women come to the bank and it turned out that they were acquaintances of my girlfriend 😄. So from then on four of us walked 🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️. Well, it wasn't running anymore (because we have our well-established pace 😎), but we also reached our goal 😆. All in all a very nice little tour 😊

After a long time another hike and this time the first thing to do was hike the new extra tour of the Ehrenbergers on October 8th, 2022. Very nice route and my highlight was the information board with audio stations.

Starting point: hiking car park at the church, An der Kirche, 36115 Ehrenberg. In the upper Ulstertal, the extra tour runs through rustling mixed deciduous forest and past pastures. It connects the mountains Ehrenberg and Schafstein on an entertaining circuit. On the 12.2 kilometers of the extra tour "Der Ehrenberger" the nature experience is in the foreground. Forests and meadows, panoramic views, a sea of basalt blocks and many enchanting discoveries along the way await you on this circular route. The hike begins in the Ehrenberg district of Wüstensachsen. From the church in the center of the village, the first few meters of the extra tour lead out of the village and past the outdoor pool behind the paddling pond. It is easy to continue above this, before the path leads up to the Schafstein (831 m) a short time later. This Rhön mountain inspires with its unique beauty, as it awaits visitors with two basalt block heaps. This breathtaking natural wonder can only be reached on foot. The views of Wüstensachsen and Reulbach with the Milseburg in the background are simply fascinating. After leaving the Schafstein, the tour continues through deciduous forests. We cross the babbling Reulbach and hike past meadows and a special type of Rhön pasture: a so-called Hutung. There are a particularly large number of these in the community of Ehrenberg. Along the edge of the forest, we first reach a picturesque natural pond before we reach St. Martin's Chapel. A wonderful place of rest. The benches in front of it are ideal for a rest during the hike. It continues with the crossing of the Ehrenberg, the namesake of the extra tour. On a wooded path and past the Reulbacher Kreuz, it goes continuously downhill, along pastures and gnarled trees, so-called beeches, to a beautiful vantage point. From here there are spectacular far-reaching views of the municipality's huts. Now we continue down the valley to the Selfiepoint Ehrenberg - heart of the Rhön. With a souvenir photo in your pocket, you return to the starting point of the hike to the church in Wüstensachsen. ©️ Catherine Happel

Welcome back to the Rhön. We were already in the region in winter 2022 and wanted to come back again. This time in spring. 👏🏼🙂 We had chosen the extra tour for today - the Ehrenberger. We started at the parking lot at the church square in Wüstensachsen. The path led us out of the village and straight uphill across the fields, which shone so beautifully in yellow with dandelions 🌼. We already had the first beautiful views. The paths are very well signposted and there are always opportunities for a rest.👍🏼 On the way we also had one or two snow fields along the way. ❄️😯 We had another great view from the Schafstein, and we also saw the Milseburg ⛰️ - let's see if we can go there again tomorrow. 😉😄 We really liked the core zones of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve at Schafstein, the block piles there are also interesting. A beautiful tour in fantastic hiking weather. 🥰

On Sunday we tested the newest extra tour of the Rhön. The Ehrenberger was inaugurated in October and the markings are correspondingly fresh. 😍 A relatively easy tour, but peppered with 2 real steep sections. As always, the scenery is phenomenal! The Schafstein as a highlight of the tour works great. The cold winter conditions also brought frozen creeks, masses of white snow and winter wonderland. Since I have recently been using the GoPro to cut sections of the tours into small highlights, the photos are a bit too short. But I want to change that again. 🤭
