Jardins de Costa i Llobera

Highlight • Natural

It is one of the most important cactus and succulent gardens in Europe. Facing the sea, sheltered by the mountain of Montjuïc that welcomes them, they are located in a privileged viewpoint and a few minutes from the city center.

Mossèn Costa i Llobera offers spectacular panoramic views of the city’s coastline and harbor. The recent refurbishment has significantly improved this central access with the opening of two new pedestrian gates, which until then were only used as service accesses.
The garden is a privileged outdoor classroom, which allows you to learn about the evolutionary strategies of succulents, which have generated varieties that specialize in low water consumption.

Miramar Gardens

Highlight • Viewpoint

The gardens are located on an esplanade in the Mirador de Miramar, a balcony 60 m above sea level from where magnificent panoramic views of the city and the port of Barcelona can be seen. Behind this space is the Hotel Miramar, a building built as a restaurant for the 1929 International Exhibition, and which between 1959 and 1983 was the headquarters of TVE in Catalonia; in 2006 it was converted into a hotel. The garden is made up of various flower beds bordered by low hedges, as well as trees of various species. In its central part there is a fountain, and three sculptures of female figures decorate this space: Fertility (1929) and Serenity (1929), by Josep Clarà, and The Grape Harvester (or Pomona, 1927), by Pablo Gargallo.

Its design was carried out by the French engineer and urban planner Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, one of the best landscape designers international organizations of the time, which introduced the concept of Mediterranean gardens in the city of Barcelona. Forestier had the collaboration of Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí, director of Parks and Gardens of Barcelona

Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer Gardens

Highlight • Natural

For me it was the greenest Parc in BCN. It's super quite and the small lake was good to cool your feet after a long walk.

Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium

Highlight • Monument

It was the main venue for the 1955 Mediterranean Games, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics, horse riding, football and field hockey events.

In 1957, the stadium hosted the Generalissimo Cup Final, in the only edition in which Fútbol Club Barcelona and Real Club Deportivo Espanyol, the two great clubs of "Ciudad Condal", have faced each other in the final, disputing a Barcelona derby that ended with Barça victory by 1-0.

In 1982, it was the scene for two months of rehearsals for the opening ceremony of the '82 World Cup in Spain, which was held at the Camp Nou, where more than 3,000 students from various Salesian schools in Barcelona took part.

Frequently Asked Questions

How challenging is the Montjuïc 360 Trail for jogging?

While some sections are relatively easy, the Montjuïc 360 Trail is rated as difficult on komoot due to its significant uphill and downhill sections. Montjuïc hill itself rises about 150 meters, so expect a good workout with continuous elevation changes. It's best suited for moderately experienced joggers who are comfortable with varied terrain.

What kind of terrain can I expect on this jogging route?

The route offers a diverse mix of terrain. You'll jog along paved streets, through tranquil parkland, and on some hidden trails. Expect a dynamic experience with both ascents and descents as you circumnavigate the hill.

What are the main sights and viewpoints along the Montjuïc 360 Trail?

This trail lives up to its name, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of Barcelona, the Mediterranean Sea, and the city's port. You'll pass by beautiful green spaces like the Jardins de Costa i Llobera and Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer Gardens, and iconic landmarks such as Castell de Montjuïc and the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. Don't miss the panoramic vistas from Miramar Gardens.

Is the Montjuïc 360 Trail a loop route?

Yes, the Montjuïc 360 Trail is designed as a circular route that encircles the entire Montjuïc hill, bringing you back to your starting point.

What is the best time of year to jog this trail?

Spring and autumn are generally the best times to jog the Montjuïc 360 Trail. The weather is milder, making the elevation changes more comfortable, and the gardens are often in full bloom. Early mornings or late afternoons are ideal to avoid the midday heat, especially in summer, and to enjoy fewer crowds.

How do I get to the trailhead, and is there parking available?

Montjuïc is well-connected by public transport in Barcelona. You can reach the area via metro (Poble Sec or Paral·lel stations, followed by a walk or bus), funicular, or cable car. While there is some street parking around Montjuïc, it can be limited, especially during peak times. Using public transport is often the most convenient option.

Are dogs allowed on the Montjuïc 360 Trail?

Yes, dogs are generally allowed in Parc de Montjuïc and on its trails. However, it's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially in crowded areas, near attractions, and to respect local regulations regarding pet waste.

Do I need any permits or pay an entrance fee to access Parc de Montjuïc or this trail?

No, there are no permits or entrance fees required to access Parc de Montjuïc or to jog the Montjuïc 360 Trail itself. It's a public urban park, freely accessible to everyone. However, specific attractions like Castell de Montjuïc may have their own entrance fees.

Does this trail connect with other routes in the area?

Yes, the Montjuïc 360 Trail is Barcelona's first fully signposted urban hiking route and integrates with other paths. The route covers significant portions of the 'Montjuïc 360' trail (69%) and also passes through sections of the 'Ronda Verda - Sector Front Marítim' (41%).

Is the Montjuïc 360 Trail suitable for families jogging with children?

Given its 'difficult' rating and significant elevation changes, the trail might be challenging for younger children or those new to jogging. It's more suitable for families with moderately experienced, active children who are comfortable with longer distances and varied terrain. Consider the 12 km distance and 250m+ elevation gain when deciding.

Are there places to get refreshments or use restrooms along the route?

As the trail winds through a popular urban park, you'll find various cafes, restaurants, and public restrooms, especially near major attractions like the Olympic Park and Castell de Montjuïc. It's always a good idea to carry water, especially on warmer days, but opportunities for refills are available.
