Mountain biking

Prepare for a difficult mountain biking challenge on the Salita al Lago Oserot, a route spanning 11.2 miles (18.0 km) with a significant 2661 feet (811 metres) of elevation gain. This trail will take you through serene larch woods and expansive alpine pastures, transitioning to rocky sections and loose scree as you climb higher. You can expect highly technical segments that might require you to push or even carry your bike. After about 2 hours and 19 minutes of riding, you'll reach the distinctive bean-shaped Lago Oserot, nestled in a high-altitude natural landscape.

Given its difficult rating and varied terrain, you should come prepared for a demanding ride. The route includes sections of loose scree and uneven paths, and some parts might even be exposed, so good bike handling skills and appropriate gear are essential. Be aware that an ancient military road near Lago Oserot is partially collapsed, adding to the technical challenge. Always check local conditions before you go, especially regarding weather and trail stability in the alpine environment.

Beyond its natural beauty, the Salita al Lago Oserot holds significant historical interest. As you ride, you will encounter old military bunkers and barracks, remnants of the Italo-French conflict of 1940 and the Western Alpine Wall defensive system. The area is also notable for its botanical diversity, featuring abundant lavender, Centranthus angustifolius, and the rare Allium narcissiflorum. This journey offers a quintessential high-altitude experience in the picturesque Stura Valley.

The intention was to reach the 2 valleys bivouac. Unfortunately up there everything is in shambles and from Rocca Brancia onwards it is a shambles. So we made do with Passo della Gardetta, Passo di Rocca Brancia and Colle Oserot. From there on an impressive sight is presented! 🏴 ☠️🤘🏻👋🏻

By car to the Colle di Preit 2,080 m (10 euros, limited parking space) - continue by bike to the Rifugio and Passo Gardetta, Passo Rocca Brancia. From there on foot to Monte Oserot (the last part VERY steep, some exposed parts) and back again. Very impressive landscape!
