This trail is generally considered moderate. While it doesn't involve technical climbing, it does feature steep sections with loose stones and requires a reasonable level of fitness. Families with younger children or those new to hiking might find some parts challenging due to the gradients and rocky terrain. It's a circular route, approximately 5.4 kilometers long, taking about 2 hours to complete.
The terrain is varied, featuring a mix of dirt tracks and rocky sections. You'll encounter some steep, rubbly paths with strong gradients and loose stones, particularly during the switchback climb and descent. The path winds through areas with small holm oaks and offers a sense of awe as you walk beneath the towering rock formations.
The trail offers spectacular views of the Peñas de Riglos and the surrounding landscape. Key viewpoints include the Camino del Cielo - Panoramic View, Colorado Viewpoint, Bentuso Viewpoint, and Cirque Viewpoint. You'll also pass by the Church of Our Lady of Mallo.
The region is famous for its abundant wildlife, especially the Eurasian griffon vultures. You can often see these magnificent birds soaring effortlessly overhead. It's also common to spot rock climbers tackling the colossal pillars of the Mallos de Riglos.
The trail is enjoyable for much of the year. Spring and autumn generally offer the most pleasant temperatures for hiking. Summers can be hot, so an early start is recommended if hiking during these months. Winters can be cold, but often clear, offering crisp views.
The trail starts from the heart of the small village of Riglos. There is parking available within or just outside the village, making it convenient to begin the circular route.
While Riglos is a small village, it is generally accessible. However, public transport options might be limited, especially outside of peak season. It's advisable to check local bus schedules or consider driving for the most flexibility.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, given the rocky sections, steep gradients, and potential for loose stones, ensure your dog is accustomed to such terrain and has good paw protection. Always keep your dog on a leash to protect local wildlife, especially the nesting vultures, and to ensure their safety on exposed sections.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Camino del Cielo trail or to access the general area of the Mallos de Riglos within the Reino de los Mallos. It is a publicly accessible natural area.
Yes, sections of this route coincide with other official trails. You will find parts of the Via Sancti Martini - Chemin de Saragosse, the Camino Natural de la Hoya de Huesca, and the Sendero Histórico: Huesca along the way. It also overlaps with the Circular de Riglos.
Given the moderate difficulty and varied terrain, we recommend sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support, sufficient water, snacks, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and layers of clothing suitable for changing weather conditions. A camera is a must for the incredible views!
The Camino del Cielo is a comfortable and spectacular way to experience the dizzying grandeur of the Riglos peaks without having to climb.
Sorry, there are 2 or 3 more 📷... It was only partly my fault (I just needed the breaks 😉), but mostly it was the landscape... you always think, how perfect the view is! And then you walk a few meters further and think: even better! And so it goes for the rest of a tour! Unbelievable! The climb was quite challenging... 😳But what a feeling... With the vultures up there... I could sometimes see them from above 👍😳 However, it was difficult to get it onto my 📷... Sun on the screen and a dark background.... 😳 How sublime it must be to glide through such landscapes.... It probably would have made the descent a bit easier, too, because it was no less challenging 😳 I was actually wondering during the ascent how I would get back down the vertical walls 😳🤔 But... I made it. They all come down 😉😃 Unfortunately, the vultures don't pick up hitchhikers 🙄 During a break (not that I needed one, but that's what you do...😉😃), a vulture flew past me a few meters away, and I almost felt the breeze. 😊 And it was amazing! The scenery was amazing! It's amazing!
Beautiful walk, a lot of climbing so good condition + hiking boots required! The many vultures hovering between the mountains give you a feeling of 'far away from civilization'
Ct not long but intense the rise of the beginning my rinse I did not understand I had trouble going up... digestion... not yet acclimatized to a little over 30 degrees well so no in fact it was more like 39 degrees 🫠
- Garmin data: 2:38h total time, 430m total difference in altitude. Video: https://www.relive.cc/view/v36APQ7Q9ZO - NOTE: the "sky path" or "sky path" is a spectacular route that surrounds the mallos de riglos, impressive hailstone formations that are a paradise for many climbers. The itinerary and orientation are simple, and the views are beastly.
