Hikers should be accustomed to long walks and considerable physical exertion.

What is the terrain like on the trail?

The trail offers numerous notable sights. You'll pass through areas like Agulles and Frares Encantats, and encounter landmarks such as the Coll de Can Maçana, the Coll de Can Maçana Viewpoint, and the Sant Pau Vell Ruins. Other highlights include the View of Les Agulles de Montserrat, the unique Roca Foradada (Holed Rock), and the La Portella Pass. The trail also leads past the Agulles Vicenç Barbé Refuge.

Where does the Anoia Montserratina Trail start, and is there parking available?

The trail officially begins at the Ermita de Sant Feliu in Castellolí. While specific parking details for this exact starting point aren't provided, access points like Can Maçana are common entry points into the Montserrat area, where parking facilities are typically available for hikers.

How long does it typically take to complete the Anoia Montserratina Trail?

The full circular route, which spans approximately 23 to 25 kilometers, typically takes between 7 to 8 hours to complete. This duration accounts for the trail's length and significant elevation changes.

Is the Anoia Montserratina Trail dog-friendly?

Information regarding dog-friendliness for this specific trail is not explicitly stated. However, as it passes through Parc Natural de la Muntanya de Montserrat, it's generally advisable to keep dogs on a leash to protect wildlife and ensure safety on challenging terrain. Always check local park regulations before bringing your dog.

What is the best time of year to hike this trail?

The best time to hike this trail is generally during spring and autumn when temperatures are milder. Summer can be very hot, and winter may bring colder conditions and potentially slippery paths, especially after rainfall. Always check the weather forecast before you go.

Generally, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required for hiking on the trails within the Parc Natural de la Muntanya de Montserrat, including the Anoia Montserratina Trail. Does the trail connect with other hiking paths?

Yes, the route intersects with several other well-known paths. Significant portions of the trail overlap with the Anoia Montserratina (PR-C 78), E09, El Camí IT6TR7 El Camí Central: de Castelló de la Plana a Montserrat, and Sender del Mil·lenari de Montserrat. You'll also find sections that coincide with Castells de Frontera Ruta 5 - Els Castells Montserratins, Camí Ignasià Català 6: Igualada - Montserrat, and Camí Ramader de Marina.

Are there any refuges or water sources along the route?

Yes, the trail passes by the Agulles Vicenç Barbé Refuge, which can offer a place to rest. Additionally, you'll encounter the Font de l'Esllavissada, which may provide a natural water source, though its reliability can vary seasonally. Always carry sufficient water for a demanding hike of this length.

Is the Anoia Montserratina Trail suitable for beginners or families?

Given its classification as a difficult trail with significant length (23-25 km) and considerable elevation gain (1600-2323 m), this route is generally not recommended for beginners or young families. It requires a good level of physical fitness and experience with long-distance hiking on challenging terrain.

Route that starts in the Can maçana parking lot towards Roca foradada, stop to eat something, and then we go down and continue the circular route towards the refuge of les agulles until we finish again at the second crossroads we found on the way out and return to the parking lot.

Our legs were quite tired in the morning, so we started the day relaxed at the local bakery. We packed some baguettes and let Komoot map out a route for us. The plan was to head to the mountain region around Montserrat. The weather forecast was moderate, so we took advantage of every last minute of sunshine to capture a few impressions. We still wanted to climb Roca Foradada despite the rain starting to fall, so we climbed up here 👍. In the final few meters, the storm front had already passed, and we were able to take some nice photos of this beautiful hike.

From Can Maçana towards the monastery, I arrive at Coll de Guirlo and to the right. towards the refuge, arrived at the Coll de la Portella I continue straight ahead, refuge and straight ahead passing by the Font de l'esllavissada and shortly after the Coll de Port, now straight ahead and I begin to go down, I will find 3 crosses always towards Can Maçana, it arrived again to Coll de Guirlo and return to the car.

Not entirely true because I forgot to track at the beginning and after the lunch break. So there will definitely be another 50 or more meters in altitude. ☺️

From Can Maçana to the Coll From Guirlo, as soon as I pass it I take a small path that goes to the Vicens Barbe refuge, goes up through the Estret Portal and continues to the refuge, then I continue straight ahead past the Ampla canal and straight on until I reach the Esllavissada fountain where I give water to Los Perros, then I continue to Coll del Porc and begin to descend to return to the first crossroads to the right and the second straight ahead, I reach the GR and continue to the left, I pass under the Cadereta and when I reach Coll de Guirlo I take the track which goes down to the Torrent de la Diablesa area, it reached a track that I take to the right, then I find the Camí de les Batalles and I follow it to the right until I reach Can Maçana and the car.
