Highlight • Monument

The cisterns, the work of Septimius Severus, had the function of providing water for the Second Parthian legion. On some occasions it is possible to visit them, it is necessary to contact the Civic Museum of Albano.

Trail Reviews

Emanuela
April 6, 2025, Lago Albano – giro ad anello – Parco dei Castelli Romani

After the urban route, once you have resumed the woodland path marked with white/red, after half an hour it suddenly stops, with vines with thorns, fallen trees that block the path and no view of a probable continuation. You therefore find yourself forced to invent a path among the woods, switching to climbing to be able to reach the newly traced path by attempts. Extremely dangerous climbing because it is overhanging the lake, with crumbling and wet ground. Poorly marked the path and extremely dangerous for non-experts. Certainly to be reviewed carefully and with interruptions of the path to be clearly marked. Certainly, however, beautiful views and sections that can also be covered by bike or for a Sunday walk.

The devil's path should be avoided by inexperienced and slow-moving people, there are many uprooted trees, landslides and brambles...

Away from mass tourism, we became aware of this great lake and circled it once. Unfortunately, there are also many places here that are filthy with rubbish, a very big problem in Italy. Scenic but very beautiful 😊

A circular route of about 10 km that embraces the shores of Lake Albano, giving us suggestive glimpses and breathtaking panoramas. ✨ The excursion can start from any of the parking lots overlooking the lake. If you follow our trail, you will have the advantage of parking on the "white lines" (don't pay the parking meter) and you will find bars and ice cream parlors in the last part of the route, so you can refresh yourself and possibly buy the food you will have finished along the excursion. We immediately immerse ourselves in nature, following a path that winds through the vegetation. 🌿 The scent of the lake accompanies us along the entire route, between stretches of asphalt road, narrower paths and comfortable stretches of sidewalk on the lakefront. 🏞️ On a stretch of the lakefront, the one that runs alongside the driveway, we also find bars, ice cream parlors and restaurants, perfect for a tasty stop. 🍦 It is worth remembering, however, that for about 2/3 of the route there are no refreshment points, so it is advisable to bring water and snacks with you. 🎒 Along the route, we encountered a fallen tree that was blocking the path, but it was easily overcome by the children of the group (see photo 📸). 💪 We also remember that the area is populated by wild boars, so it is necessary to pay attention 🐗 The path is very popular with runners and hikers, but being in a natural park, you must take into account the possibility of also encountering some wild animals. 🦊 Along the route you will encounter several gates, which serve to prevent the passage of vehicles, but not pedestrians who have "free rein"! 👍 The tour ends with the return to the starting point, with the satisfaction of having explored one of the most beautiful lakes in Lazio. 😊

Easy and very pleasant route. Recommended at sunset!

10 km easy around Lake Albano. The drying up of the lake is becoming more and more evident with large beaches that were not there before.

Panoramic tour of Lake Albano, along part of the perimeter path and then climb along the "devil's descent" until you reach the Capuchin convent. From here continue towards the municipality of Castel Gandolfo, then go down the station steps and continue towards the lake.
