A loop of the Sancy which begins in strong winds and ends in a storm.

Or: (The) Hikers above the Sea of Fog. A fantastic hike, part of the Curcuit Boucle Sancy hiking trail. Take the historic cog railway to the starting point. A unique ridge walk. Okay, the weather could have been better, and you couldn't always see everything, but it was still a great experience.

A loop with a breathtaking landscape at high difficulty level you have to be well shod and bring a doc bag with water and food because you spend a lot of calories and there are some acrobatic passages

A beautiful hike around Mont-Dore that takes you through the oldest puys in the Massif Central (according to a sign at the Puy de Sancy 🤓). The trail is easy to access but still requires steady footing and decent physical condition.

Super nice hike, lots of hikers, hardly any shade, possibility to stop for refreshments before Puy Sancy

Today was a dream.🤩🥳Mont-Dore is a small town in the long valley of the Haut Dordogne and is known for its thermal springs and as a mecca for outdoor activities, summer and winter. There are numerous trails through the wonderful nature here - we chose a 'horseshoe' that takes us over several peaks to the Puy de Sancy, the highest peak in the Massif Central at 1885m. On the western chain of peaks in the valley we then took ridge paths back to the Pic de Capucin, from the foot of which we 'descended' on the funicular - the oldest in France, dating from the end of the 19th century (another of several superlatives today). We walked the loop in this direction so that we wouldn't have such a long descent, and also because of the fantastic surroundings with the large waterfall as the entrance. Thanks to it being Sunday, there was a lot going on, especially around the very well-developed plank path, or rather the wooden stairs on the Puy de Sancy from the mountain hut, which can be reached by cable car 🚡. As expected, there were a lot of white sneakers around here. But you could also tell that it was Sunday - son's exact words: "Today I said 'bonjour' at least 50 times" (always very friendly) 😁 On the passes around the Puy de Sancy, I originally wanted to make a few detours to neighboring peaks, but a wall of clouds that blocked the view to the southeast made us change our minds. Also worth mentioning is the splendor of the flowers on the mountain plateaus. Flora Incognita did a good job, but the Photos app is slowly getting better in this regard.

Magnificent hike starting from Mont Dore. The first part is a continuous climb to the top of Puy de Sancy (1886m). Most of the way is on good quality trails. Be careful, however, two short passages, secured by cables, can be more difficult for people who are impressionable or prone to vertigo. The second part is done downhill. Mouflons can be seen near the top. The hike is quite long and presents more elevation than what is officially indicated (rather 1100m than the 880 announced).
