Along the Eau de Bérard

Highlight (Segment) • River

Here, we hike following this pretty torrent whose origin is the melting of the Bérard glacier. It is a very pleasant bucolic section!

Mont Buet

Highlight • Summit

At 3,098 meters above sea level, Mont Buet offers an incredible panorama of the Mont-Blanc massif, the Aiguilles Rouges and the Haut-Giffre. Mont Buet is nicknamed "the Mont Blanc des Dames" in homage to the sisters Mary and Elizabeth Parminter who reached the summit in 1786.

July 2, 2022, Le Mont Buet depuis "Le Buet" et cascade de Bérard

(hike made on 2.07.22) Long hike with a lot of elevation which makes it its main difficulty. Nicknamed hike: Mont Blanc des Dames. Varied hike: Departure in the forest, the path follows a torrent, evolving towards a recessed valley where the trees give way to bushes. After the refuge, the stone replaces the trees then evolution towards slates up to the summit. The path climbs moderately to the refuge then the slope becomes steep to the "field of orange stones" where it will be preferable that it does not rain to favor grip on the stone. Then you will cross some residual snow snowfields that do not require crampons, just sticks for balance if necessary. The last part below the summit climbs severely with short steep switchbacks to the antenna. I was able to bypass the patches of snow for the last 100m below the summit because they weren't too heavy, but probably be careful at another time.

The aim was: - little sleep - go to the front - do a big d + (the D1 of the ascent of Mont Blanc being 1450m D +) - reach the top of Mont Buet without sleeping at the refuge as the majority do. - Mont Buet = nicknamed the Mont Blanc of women - a big D- - walk with a 10kg bag Result: first 5 easy kms to the refuge then the climb that follows: walls for some at 39%. Very hard with inflamed adductors. Objective accomplished but total: my toenails will fall off
