Before the return trip, soak up some forest air, sun and mountain feeling: Was very good between the peat house and moor. :)
Yesterday I finally went back to the Harz Mountains. After arriving, I wanted to stretch my legs a bit and spontaneously decided to drive to Torfhaus and visit the Große Torfhausmoor. The starting point was the visitor parking lot at the Harzturm (fee applies). From there, I first walked along the Goetheweg – the well-known hiking trail towards the Brocken. After a while, the route branched off into the Große Torfhausmoor. From here, the path led over planked walkways through the impressive moor landscape. After a few meters, I reached a wide open area with a direct view of the Brocken – especially beautiful in the summer weather.🌞 The path continued along the Abbegraben, part of the historic Upper Harz water management system. The path then followed the Kaiserweg, which later offered repeated views of the Brocken. The return journey took me along the Torfmoorweg, past the Schubenstein Cliff and the WaldWandelWeg, where you can also find a special stamp from the Harz Hiking Badge, before finally reaching Torfhaus again. An easy but very beautiful circular hike with plenty of Upper Harz flair: the typical spruce forest (or what's left of it...), wide views of the Brocken, an insight into the Upper Harz water management system - and of course the Große Torfhausmoor as a highlight.
Where the young spruces stand Nuki wants to go today. Where the beautiful raised moor stands and the shallow Abbe lives a gentle wind accompanies us when we are outside again The mistress is doing well there too What more could you want, it gives you courage I can be so poetic when I try, I could also be called Nuki-Goethe🤪 Today we definitely took advantage of the fresh wind and wandered around Torfhaus a bit. We looked at the ugly Harz tower up close and studied the menu from the Vienna Woods. But the most beautiful thing was all the young spruces (#myZapfitreesarecomingback) and of course the splashing of the Abbe on my paws. 6.5 km are done, not much can go wrong when autumn finally arrives 😃 Of course it's not like I usually just lie around on my lazy fluffy fur. We've already been looking for mushrooms, splashing in the Innerste, splashing in the Oker, at the Schalker pond, but the lady hasn't really got back on her feet yet, every time it gets a little better the stupid super sun comes and knocks her over again but you see, we don't give up 💪🏻 With that in mind, I wish you all a nice weekend. As the thermometer will climb above 30 degrees again tomorrow, I'll treat myself to a sip from my very favorite Innerste, or two, or three, or... well, you know 😎 Have a wonderful evening Your Nuki 🐾
Hike #1 today... From the large parking lot at the National Park House we went to the Great Torfhausmoor. We completed the loop counter-clockwise and so we started along the Abbegraben on the Goetheweg, followed the wooden plank path into the moor, found peat moss, cotton grass and sundew and passed the WaldWandelWeg on the way back. It is well documented here what effects the bark beetle or storms have on the forest and how the forest has redeveloped in recent years. We ended this round with a short visit to the National Park House.
Carrying tour // doable with a stroller We were there during the week when hardly anyone was around. It wouldn't have been a problem with a stroller on the narrow wooden paths, but it's probably different on the weekend when there's more hustle and bustle.
Today would actually be a day of rest. But a look at the weather app told us: "Go to the sun🌞." In Torfhaus we took a walk around the Torfhausmoor. We walked over planked footbridges past heather and dead and newly growing trees🌳.
Very nice hike, even in bad weather!
Since my son liked the wooden plank paths so much, we went on the Torfhausmoor circuit today. The weather was finally kind to us and we had pleasant weather, apart from a few brief drops of rain. The view stretched all the way to the Brocken summit. There are always beautiful things to discover along the way, which are particularly interesting for kids. From great moats, a lynx monument, to a small circular path about the changes in the forest. A really beautiful tour.
