Hiking

An interesting round through the rather little traveled north-east of the Dresdner Heide, peppered with many beautiful natural jewels. A long but very rewarding tour.

And this is how you get there: If you are arriving by car, there is a park-and-ride car park at Radeberg train station. From the city you can reach the train station with the S-Bahn line 8.

Then you can start: You walk through the untouched landscape and first reach the Hofewiese, a spacious meadow in the middle of the Dresden Heath. Their name comes from the fact that the hay on many of these meadows was formerly used to feed wild animals in the electoral hunting grounds.

Passing the Färberbornteich and the Ochsenkopf forest hut, which is ideal for a break in the middle of lush nature, you will soon reach the Heidemühle, a restaurant with a beer garden and a nice stop for tired hikers. As of June 2022 open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Finally, you pass the idyllic Haarweidenstausee before you return to the starting point sooner or later. Have fun on this tour!

Färberbornteich

Highlight • Lake

The Färberbornteich is located directly on the eastern edge of the Dresdner Heide. You can walk along its banks or just linger for a few minutes. Simply a beautiful place.

"High" mountains in the heath 😏, at least 272 meters high. You have to imagine the mountains themselves, but the area is relatively high for the heath.

Forester’s Hut Ochsenkopf

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Quiet place, a bit away from the big hiking trails. An acoustic experience in spring.

Heidemühle Beer Garden and Pond

Highlight • Restaurant

Very centrally located restaurant in the Dresden Heath. Good food. Very popular. Always open from 12pm to 6pm except Mondays.

The full name of the Haarweidenbach, which was dammed to become a fire extinguishing pond in the 1930s, is "Haarweidenstausee". During our winter hike in January 2017, we walked across the frozen reservoir. Some adults and children went ice skating. We always stay on the "red line" and get to the "Verkehrte Gabel" via the dam wall.

Today we enjoyed the Dresden Heath on beautiful autumnal hiking trails with plenty of mushrooms right along the way. Overall, it was a wonderful hike, even though the weather became increasingly autumnal and wetter as we went along. It's always a shame to keep coming and going at the beautiful Heidemühle (Heide Mill).
