In addition to all the beautiful sights in the heart of Freiburg, this small but nice hiking trail is waiting to be explored by you above the roofs of the city. It combines the most beautiful views of the city with the remains of the imposing castle that once stood on the Castle Hill.
From the valley station of the Schlossberg cable car, the hiking trail takes you straight ahead over a somewhat more demanding uphill path to the Schlossberg tower. Over 153 steps, the ascent there takes you over 30 meters higher. You will be compensated for this first strenuous part of the hike with a fabulous view of Freiburg.
Then the path takes you a bit into the forest and then over the Breisgauer Weinweg above the vineyard of Freiburg to the Ludwigshöhe, another vantage point. You can end the round tour after this last stop in the Schlossberg beer garden.

We wanted to take it easy today, hence the relatively short day's stage near Freiburg. We had underestimated the elevation gain. We got a bit out of breath climbing the 'Schlossberg without a castle' and were pretty much at the end of our strength after only 6 km 💪😵💫
