Since 1977, the Otto-Maigler-See, created in a former open-cast mine pit of the exhausted Gotteshülfe mining area, has been one of the larger lakes in the Ville region. The 10.7 km long Otto-Maigler-Runde (“O”) trail runs predominantly along the shore and through the recultivated forest surrounding the lake. A small patch of old-growth forest remains near Burbach Monastery.
