On this family-friendly extra tour Dreienberg we experience pure wilderness in the heart of the core zone of the biosphere reserve in untouched forests, extensive meadows and wonderful views.
Our journey of discovery starts easily and pleasantly along the slope of the Dreienberg. The northernmost mountain of the Rhön near Friedewald is in the middle of one of the largest core zones of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön. We enjoy diverse and impressive forest pictures on our hike. Why? Of course, the forest can develop undisturbed here and become real wilderness!
The special habitats on the Dreienberg include large areas of calcareous grassland. That's why we often look down and not just into the distance. Because in this type of vegetation, which is characteristic of the Rhön, there are numerous rare animal and plant species.
Even if saying goodbye to the Dreienberg is difficult, the reward follows immediately. Beautiful viewpoints open up to us over the impressive panoramas of Kuppenrhön, Seulingswald and Werra-Bergland before we return to the parking lot.
Tip: Interested in culture? Then take your time for the historical sites along the extra tour, e.g. B. the ruins of Dreienburg, first mentioned in 1297.
