The Blaubeuren valley basin is known for its rock formations and is full of natural beauty, such as the legendary Blautopf karst spring. As one of the Ice Age trails, the Blaubeuren Rock Climb takes you back to an earlier time. Spread over approximately ten and a half kilometers, it leads you through the stunning valley basin, over densely forested steep slopes, past striking cliffs and magnificent viewpoints.
The tour begins near Blaubeuren train station. Two real gems await you within the first two kilometers of your tour: a steep rock face with the impressive Brillenhöhle cave, and the extraordinary rock formation with the memorable name "Kissing Pig." You continue your hike through the impressive landscape via Günzelburg Castle, with views of the Ach Valley, then descend to the turquoise-blue karst spring "Blautopf" on the edge of Blaubeuren's old town.
The climb continues. On narrow paths, you first hike over the Glasfels, then the Blaufels, and finally, upon reaching the Alb plateau, you walk – sometimes in and sometimes along the forest – to the outskirts of Sonderbuch. From there, a forest path leads you past the impressive Rusenschloss castle ruins with a fantastic view and over the Frauenberg back to Blaubeuren.
