Would you like to turn back time and roam through the woods like an Ice Age hunter? Then you are in the right place in Blaubeuren. Here you walk in the footsteps of the Ice Age hunters, follow their prey and foray routes and, with a lot of imagination, you may even discover a saber-toothed tiger or a mammoth. Both Neanderthals and modern humans lived in the caves in the Ach Valley. Around the caves were their hunting grounds.
Your tour starts from the outskirts of Blaubeuren. You hike up the steep slope of the hamlet of Halde and get a first glimpse of Stone Age living conditions at the spectacle cave. Through the rock labyrinth you reach the medieval ruins of Günzelburg. It goes downhill, past the snail rock, to Weiler and on the other side of the valley.
A narrow path leads up to the Bruckfels rock massif, where the "Geißenklösterle" cave is located, a place frequently visited by Ice Age people. The cave is part of the UNESCO World Heritage "Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Jura". Via the Köhnenbuch, a beech steppe heath forest, you come to the Schillerstein and then hike back to Blaubeuren. A visit to the Prehistoric Museum awaits you here.

I haven't walked an Ice Age Trail for a long time. So today I tackled the Ice Age Hunters Trail, a rather shorter but incredibly worth seeing tour. The 9.5km alternate highlights and beautiful paths, but you do have to really puff up the mountain twice.

Great area, surprising views and rock formations, but also tough climbs...
All in all a really nice round.

Today only little Bärli was there - if I had known that things could be done so quickly in Ulm, Teddy 🐕 could have come too.
