Meteor and forests – Brenz Valley to the Albuch

Cycling

The starting point of the round tour is at the Heidenheim-Schnaitheim train station. Along the Brenz you leave Schnaitheim and descend over a hill into the Steinheim basin, which was created by a meteorite impact. In Steinheim, it is worth making a detour to the Kraterblick mountain hut, from which you have a great view of the pool.

Then you drive out of the crater and reach the highest point in the region at an altitude of almost 700 meters. On the high plateau you cycle through magical forests. On the way you can make a detour to the Wental with its unique rock formations.

Shortly before the finish, you roll down on a refreshing descent back into the Brenztal, where you can take a leisurely break at Lake Itzelberger See. You then cycle back to the starting point in Schnaitheim along the Brenz.

Kraterblick Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Good cuisine and comfortable seating in the garden. Unfortunately it's not always open, only on Thursdays and Friday afternoons. And on Sundays and public holidays it is only open for events. More information can be found at skreuz.de/genuss/berghuette-kraterblick.

The climb from Steinheim to Gnannenweiler is a bit strenuous if you don't have an e-bike. It's a regular country road, but with little traffic. And at the top, you have a beautiful view. Of course, you can also do it the other way around, which is much easier. ;-)

Wental Rock Sea

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Wental offers you a unique nature experience. Countless stone pillars and bizarre rock formations of limestone line up in the valley. They bear such impressive names as Felsenmeer, Wentalweible, Sphinx or Bischofshut. It is best if you take enough time to explore this unique place.

Lake Itzelberg

Highlight • Lake

The Itzelberger See is a beautiful local recreation area. There is a lot to discover. The animal world is diverse. Directly at the lake is also a miniature golf course with catering, where you can stay with a drink and snack. Also at the lake the Hotel Seeblick. You can enjoy very good cuisine there. If you want it easier, you can have a drink or snack at a snack bar on the opposite bank. It is definitely worth making a detour to the lake.
