Mountain biking

The trail tour from Freiburg up to the Schauinsland has everything a biker's heart desires - lots of vertical meters, fantastic views and, above all, trails, trails and even more trails.

The tour begins rather harmlessly. You drive along above the valley and the slope is still very limited. If you want to save yourself the strenuous climb and want to hit the trails straight away, turn right after eight kilometers on Schauinlandstraße and let the cable car shuttle you up the mountain.

Mountain bikers continue to follow the route and continue to crank, while the gradient percent increases slowly. It gets really steep at the Geiersnest. If you persevere, you will be rewarded with fantastic views, including the famous Feldberg. From the summit of the Schauinsland, it's off to the trails.

The combination of Badish Moon Rising and Canadian Trail promises sheer driving pleasure. The Badish Moon Rising is flowing and leads to the Kybfelsen, where you can take a break with a breathtaking view. Then it goes to the technical Canadian Trail. Warning, this section is not suitable for beginners. Technical skills and, last but not least, courage are required to enjoy this creamy trail. But don't worry: If in doubt, you can always use the wider, parallel paths if it gets too hard for you. Either way, the route reliably brings you back to Freiburg, where you can end the day properly.

Junction to the Schauinslandbahn

Highlight • Rest Area

If you want to drive on the beautiful trails and trails around the Schauinsland and start from Freiburg, first a lot of altitude is announced. A short round is hardly possible - except, you take some help for the Uphill!

The Schauinslandbahn is Germany's longest cabin circulating cable car and it brings you comfortably up. A maximum of two bikes per cabin will be taken and this service can also be royally paid: In addition to the passenger transport fee of 9.50 euros are again 10.50 euros for the bike due. The train runs in the summer from 9 to 18 o'clock. In off-season, the operating hours vary. You can find all information here: schauinslandbahn.de.

Trail Reviews

March 21, 2024, Trailtour zum Schauinsland – MTB Trail-Touren im Schwarzwald

Great tour with great trails. For me it's impossible to do without an e-bike, as there are very steep and technical climbs and the "BadischMoonRising" often requires uphill climbs.

The mountain bike tour was very demanding, while the tour up to the Brocken was a walk in the park. The tour started out very easy with dirt roads, then went up to category 1-2 for mountain bikes, sometimes with very steep passages with rocks and roots. A breathtaking view from above.

Tour from the car park of the gondola station to the Schauinsland. After a short push, there are good signage with blue arrows on a yellow background. First forest roads up along valleys typical of the Black Forest. In front of the Schauinsland summit there was a lot of climbing on rocky and steep trails. Once at the top, you were rewarded with the best view. The Badish Moonrising trail began shortly after the summit station. First rocky downhill then alternating up & down with a really cool flow to the Kypfelsen. In a few passages, the trail/climb is shared with hikers. After the Kypfelsen the Canadian trail begins, which is divided into 9 sections. The first are quite rough and rocky with rocky steep passages. Down below it becomes more and more flowy including tables and kickers. The allegedly most flowy part, section 8+9, was closed due to trail work. Oh well, next time😜 From Sternwaldwiese on forest paths to Günterstal, from there on the bike path back to start. Praise to the Canadian trail builders👍🆓 trailing in BW

The two trails were again a highlight from the top. About 1000hm and 11km down. In between uphill passages, small stretches. Rocky, stepy, roots, flowing. Everything included. It was nice
