Nicolas Baudin Expedition Plaque

Highlight • Monument

Sitting on the side of the Busselton Foreshore Parade is a bust of French explorer Nicolas Baudin that was publicly unveiled in 2005. The monument is a tribute to the Baudin expedition of two ships with a small team of botanists and zoologists who explored and mapped the coast of Australia between 1800-1804. The artist of the sculpture is Peter Gelenscer, who included an informational plaque describing the Baudin and the expedition. The backdrop of the beach with golden sand and turquoise water is an added bonus.

Bridge over the Vasse River Diversion Drain

The bridge over the Vasse River Diversion Drain is a part of the Dunsborough to Busselton Shared Path, right where the drain meets the ocean at Geographe Bay in West Busselton. There are nice views from this vehicle-free bridge down onto the sparkling blue-green waters of the Diversion Drain, originally built in the 1920s to divert water away from the town centre to prevent flooding.

The Dunsborough to Busselton Shared Path spans 26 kilometres from end to end, offering uninterrupted views of Geographe Bay, coastal bushland, and frequent stops at sheltered swimming beaches, parks, and picnic spots. Pack your bathers for refreshing dips in the sea as you walk or bike the path. For bikers, it's recommended to ride a hybrid, gravel, or mountain bike due to varied surface patches; road bikes or standard skinny road tires are less ideal but manageable. Walkers should prepare for exposure, as a lot of the path is in direct sun, but come for sunset and enjoy less intense heat and beautiful sunset colours.
