Road cycling

This route is as demanding as it is beautiful. It also links places of great historical and heritage value such as the monastery of Montserrat, Manresa and Mura through iconic climbs of Catalan cycling.

The route starts from Terrassa and prepares for the ascent to Montserrat with the climb to the collada de l’Obac. From Monistrol de Montserrat, a sustained climb awaits you to the monastery; then you descend along a panoramic road under the cliffs to Manresa and enter the lush nature of the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac natural park, passing through Mura and topping the coll de Estenalles pass, before the final descent to Terrassa.

The itinerary is full of photographic opportunities thanks to the beauty of the geological quirks that seem to play with the landscape. Don't forget to take breaks and enjoy the squares of the villages you pass through, their atmosphere, and take the opportunity to regain your strength.

View of Montserrat from the natural park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

It is a very quiet and hard stretch, with hardly any cars, with rough and sometimes paved asphalt. There are several breaks that allow you to recover your legs. The hardest part is in the final part, when you enter the new development.

Views of Monistrol de Montserrat

Highlight • Viewpoint

Monistrol de Montserrat is a municipality located right at the foot of the emblematic mountain of the same name. The Llobregat River flows through the town, dividing the old town from the new part. Its network of medieval-looking alleyways invite you to wander through them aimlessly.

Classic climb that every cyclist should do at least once... a year! 10 km of curves to reach the Monastery of Montserrat. Count the last 3 km, there are usually queues to enter the car park, and also people walking, better to go up early. Enjoy the views of the Llobregat Valley, and hopefully the sea of clouds.

Monastery of Santa María de Montserrat

Highlight • Religious Site

One of the most beautiful places in Catalonia. Trekking, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, a little bit of everything. To enjoy nature alone or accompanied. Including to charge energy spiritually.

Scenic road of Montserrat

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Road BP1103 from Monestir de Montserrat to Can Maçana, Coll del Bruc, passing through Santa Cecilia, offers spectacular panoramic views of the Llobregat Valley, the entire Pla de Bages, Sant Llorenç del Munt and the Pre-Pyrenees, the entire northern view of Montserrat Mountain.

Mura

Highlight • Settlement

Mura is one of the most beautiful villages in Catalonia and a great destination for cycle tourism. There are two good bars/restaurants in the village center where you can have a wonderful breakfast or lunch.

If you don't know it, organize a route that passes through the village and take a stroll through its beautiful cobbled streets.

Estenalles Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

El coll d'Estanalles is a purely cycling tourism pass. With no steep gradients and very long from both sides, it is a challenge for many cyclists, regardless of their level.

I recommend climbing it in spring and autumn. In summer, it is too hot, and in winter, too cold.

The road is in perfect condition and with many curves, which gives a more interesting touch for the cyclist.

At the top there are no views, but the surrounding landscape is bucolic.

Panoramic Views from Coll d'Estenalles

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Coll d'Estenalles is the highest point on the Carretera del Part de Sant Llorenç del Munt. It is a long and sustained Mountain Port, perfect for good training.
