Fancy a little stroll through town? This relaxed, around nine-kilometer round tour takes you to historic buildings and squares, the unique cultural landscape of the Bentlage recreation area, the monastery of the same name and the fascinating complex around the Saline Canal.

You start very centrally at the Rheine train station. Your first destination is the imposing parish church of St. Dionysius. The church dates from the 15th or 16th century and decorates the city center. From here it is only a stone's throw to the Ems.

Now you go a bit along the water, then you cross the train tracks and stand in front of the historic salt works. Information boards tell you more about the background of the former saltworks, for which the canal for brine extraction was created in the mid-18th century.

Just a few steps further you dive into the artistically designed Bentlage Landscape Park, walk past the monastery and back to the Ems. On the other side of the bank, you hike back towards the center of the village and can stop off at one of the numerous cafés and restaurants.
