MTB Tour P-PDG: Pian Delle Gorre (Chiusa Pesio) – High Salt Route

A short bike ride to reach the ridges of the Alta Via del Sale. This route is the shortest access point in the RivierALP network and one of the most unique in terms of scenery.

The route starts from Pian delle Gorre, the main access point to the Marguareis Natural Park, which can be reached by car. A start can be considered from the Sainte-Marie Charterhouse, lower down, accessible by public transport.

You cycle through the Bosco del Prel, a forest of ancient beech trees classified as an integral nature reserve. The trees, massive and old, form a dense canopy through which little light penetrates. The path is narrow and damp at the beginning of the season. It requires attention from the start.

The Passo del Duca marks the exit from the forest cover. The route then joins the Conca delle Carsene, a vast karst depression in the limestones of the Marguareis: a closed, silent space that feels like the end of the world. The contrast with the valleys below is striking.

Rated S2, this route is for mountain bikers comfortable on technical terrain. Despite its short distance, it is challenging. Several options are available to continue your journey: descend to the sea by joining one of the RivierALP MTB(AE) routes towards Sanremo or Imperia, or cycle towards La Brigue in the direction of Menton.
