Cycling

With this Parkstad route, you will experience the region at its finest. It is a path that winds through the Parkstad region, which consists of seven municipalities: Beekdaelen, Brunssum, Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Simpelveld, and Voerendaal. The path is specially developed for cyclists and hikers, so you will not have any trouble with cars.

Along the way, you will pass beautiful natural gems like the Brunssummerheide, but also Roman excavations and castles like Kasteel Erenstein or Hoensbroek Castle. A place where city and nature meet. Very varied, therefore!

You can cycle this route with your own GPS or you can follow the recognizable, white dotted line. To return to the starting point, you can follow the conveniently indicated return cycle route (komoot.com/tour/2856229033). The route can be cycled in both directions and you can shorten it via a shortcut route (komoot.com/nl-nl/tour/2856148361).

Start or End Point of the Parkstadroute

Highlight • Cycleway

Start or end point of the Parkstadroute. The Parkstadroute is a unique slow traffic connection, bordered by green verges. The route takes you through unique landscapes where you can also experience the regional culture: from Roman times to the mines, from mineral extraction to recreation and green parks. A recreational distance of approximately 34 kilometers through Beekdaelen, Heerlen, Brunssum, Landgraaf, Kerkrade and Simpelveld. But also with practical advantages for people who cycle to work, to family or to home. At the same time, the route is the link in the international network of long-distance cycle routes between the German Vennbahn and the Belgian Kolenspoor.

Beautiful heathland. A bit further out there is a paved bike path that is easy to ride on. If you want to visit the core of the heath, you have to reckon with sandy ground in some places.

Brunssummerheide Sheepfold

The sheepfold, or the stable where sheep from the Brunssummerheide can safely spend the night. When the sheep have given birth, the sheepfold is open to the public at certain times to admire the young growth.
