Beautiful roadless wilderness area. The sand pine scrub for which the forest is famous regenerates quickly after fires, pushing up saw palmetto and young sand pines to provide shade and habitat for wildlife. The wilderness contains a variety of habitats such as open prairies, many with ponds.

By hiking, backpacking, or paddling through the wilderness, you can enjoy the flora and fauna of pine flatwoods, hardwood swamps, shallow lakes, grassy prairies, sand pine scrub, oak scrub, sinkholes, and sawgrass marsh. The Florida National Scenic Trail traverses this area. Camp at least 200 feet from trails or roads and 100 feet from water sources.

A ¾ mile self-guided interpretive trail close to Juniper Creek gives you information on the semi-tropical vegetation and wildlife found here. A 66-mile section of the Florida National Scenic Trail is in the Ocala National Forest and passes through the Juniper Creek area.
