You'll hike through a gorgeous tall maple forest, with abundant trees and, seasonally, white trilliums. While the trail itself offers forest views, it also provides access to areas with scenic overlooks of the Wausau area and the Wisconsin River, particularly from the 60-foot observation tower at the top of Rib Mountain.

Yes, the Yellow Trail is part of a system of connecting loops within Rib Mountain State Park. The route itself covers sections of the Yellow Trail, and also briefly intersects with the Red Trail, allowing hikers to adjust their distance. All loops combined total over four miles.
Hikers should be aware that trail markings near the concession stand at the top of Rib Mountain can be confusing. It's highly recommended to consult available park maps before and during your hike to stay on track.
Given its classification as the most physically demanding trail in the park with steep sections, it might be challenging for very young children or those new to hiking. Families with older, experienced children who enjoy a rigorous workout may find it suitable.
