Hiking

Embark on an easy hike along the Arch Rock Trail, a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) route that takes you through the distinctive desert landscape of Joshua Tree National Park. You will experience minimal elevation gain, climbing just 14 feet (4 metres) over approximately 30 minutes. The highlight of your journey is the impressive Arch Rock, a natural granite formation spanning about 30 feet, sculpted by nature over millennia, alongside other unique rock features and iconic Joshua trees.

When planning your visit, remember that the Arch Rock Trail offers no shade, so bring plenty of water, especially during warmer times of the year. Cell service can be unreliable in this area. You can access the trailhead from either the Twin Tanks Parking Lot or the White Tank Campground, both providing convenient starting points for your adventure. This route is family-friendly and suitable for beginners.

This trail stands out for its geological wonders, showcasing how desert elements have shaped the landscape into fascinating formations like Arch Rock and Monk's Door. It offers a glimpse into the unique ecosystem of Joshua Tree, making it a notable short excursion within the park. Dogs are not permitted on the trail, ensuring the preservation of the natural environment.

White Tank Campground

Highlight • Rest Area

White Tank is – at least in my opinion – the most beautiful campground within Joshua Tree National Park. Consider yourself lucky if you manage to get a spot since those fill up very early in the day, especially on weekends in spring and fall. Your backyard is an impressive landscape with large boulders you can climb.
Arch Rock is just around the corner.
