Lycon Plateau Lookout

Highlight • Viewpoint

A short detour from the main track leads you to Lycon Plateau Lookout, where broad sandstone slabs open onto expansive valley views. The extra steps are minimal, but the reward is wide, uninterrupted sightlines across forested ridges and the deep-cut valleys of the northern Blue Mountains. The rock platform is exposed and uneven, so watch your footing near the edges.

Lockleys Pylon

Highlight • Viewpoint

Lockleys Pylon sits on a narrow sandstone outcrop overlooking the Grose Valley, delivering some of the most expansive views in the northern Blue Mountains. From the exposed rock platform, you can see sheer cliffs, forested ridgelines and distant peaks stretching across the horizon. The final approach involves uneven rock and open edges, so take care near drop-offs. It’s a rewarding place to pause, especially on a clear day when visibility extends deep into the surrounding wilderness.

3.60 km

Not only the Lockley Pylon summit with its 360-degree panoramic view is impressive. The route below the summit towards Blackheath is much more spectacular. Here you have a truly dizzying view of the pylon with a Vertigo guarantee. At the edge of the cliff, it goes several hundred metres straight down into the abyss. Not for the faint-hearted or in bad weather conditions such as strong winds. Then absolutely dangerous.

Today we had breakfast away from the hustle and bustle of the main towns of Leura or Katoomba. After very good coffee and muesli in the dbl Ristretto in Springwood, we went in a 4WD on a dirt road near Leura.
