Starting from the Aosta train station, take the cable car up to Pila, offering spectacular views of the city and the valley. Once at the top, the route winds through woods and clearings, immediately immersing you in Alpine nature.

From Pila, along a dirt path, you reach Ozein via Turlin. The route alternates long stretches through the woods with passages across wide clearings, offering open views of the surrounding mountains.

Continuing down the valley, you'll encounter Aymavilles Castle, perched on a moraine hill and surrounded by vineyards and meadows. Its elegant 18th-century structure, loggias, and vast park with a fountain recount centuries of history, from the tower of the Canons of Saint Gilles to the Savoy and Aimone di Challant families. The view of the Dora Baltea and the castles of Sarre and Saint-Pierre is truly spectacular.

Descending through the terraced vineyards of Aymavilles, cultivated using “heroic” methods, you can admire native varieties such as Petit Rouge, Fumin, and Petite Arvine, while the Alpine landscape accompanies your every pedal stroke all the way to Aosta, where the loop ends.

Aymavilles Castle

Highlight • Castle

The Aymavilles castle, located on a moraine hill and surrounded by meadows and vineyards, dominates the course of the Dora Baltea and the strategic and commercial route that led to the Alpine passes including the Piccolo San Bernardo.
Its history is very ancient, in a papal bull of 1207 it appears as a simple tower or stronghold belonging to the assets of the canons of Saint Gilles.
This fortification subsequently underwent numerous transformations thanks to the illustrious owners who followed one another over time, starting from 1360, when the Savoys enfeoffed the jurisdiction to Aimone di Challant.
The castle is easily recognizable for its original but elegant structure characterized by eighteenth-century stuccoes, loggias and coats of arms.
The exterior is refined by the presence of a vast park with a fountain, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire valley floor.

Vineyards of Aymavilles

Highlight • Structure

The vineyards of Aymavilles (Aosta Valley) grow on Alpine terraces, where viticulture is considered heroic due to the manual labor required.

Native grape varieties such as Petit Rouge, Fumin, and Petite Arvine, as well as international varieties, are cultivated here. This produces local DOC wines such as Torrette and Fumin, appreciated for their quality and distinctive character.

The wineries offer tastings and tours, combining wine culture with breathtaking Alpine views.
