Salzburg also has a lot to offer for lovers of old palaces and castles. Mirabell Palace with its magnificent garden is definitely one of the highlights in the city of Mozart.

From the Romantikhotel Gmachl in Elixhausen, you cycle towards the Maria Sorg Mission House. At Lengfelden, you change sides of the road at the underpass and cycle along the Fischach through Bergheim and on to the Salzach.

Against the current, you cycle along the excellent cycle path along the banks of the Salzach into Salzburg city center. Opposite the old town, you finally reach Mirabell Palace. If you like, you can stroll a little through the alleys of the old town before cycling back along the Salzach.

On the way back, you finally leave the course of the Salzach and follow the path below the Plainberg back to Elixhausen.

Highlight • Restaurant

The Romantikhotel Gmachl in Elixhausen is a true traditional company. Already in 1334 there was a courtyard with a tavern and until today the hotel was always owned by one and the same family. In 2007, the hotel was honored as Austria's oldest family business.

Mirabell Palace

Highlight • Castle

In 1606, Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau had the palace built outside the then city walls for his secret lover, Salome Alt. Later, it was incorporated into the expanded city wall, and numerous subsequent archbishops chose the palace as their residence. Today, the building houses the city administration, but the magnificent garden and the impressive Marble Hall are open to visitors.

The Marble Hall is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The park can be visited daily from 6 a.m. until dusk. Admission to both the park and the palace is free.
