You leave the traffic behind and enter the Schwarzatalstraße. This car-free road winds its way through the core zone of the Schwarzatal nature reserve, right along the banks of the Schwarza River. Here you can enjoy absolute peace and quiet on perfectly smooth asphalt – a rare luxury that allows you to fully concentrate on your rhythm while the water babbles beside you.
Next, you'll cycle through the wild Schlüchttal valley. Here you'll pedal past impressive rock formations while gaining some elevation. The route then leads you to Rothaus, where a stop at the local beer garden is a great way to replenish your energy for the final leg of the loop.
The return journey takes you past the shimmering Schluchsee lake to the sporting highlight of the tour: the mountain pass road from Äule to Menzenschwand. You'll climb the switchbacks on a first-class surface before being rewarded with a rapid descent that brings you back to St. Blasien at a good speed.
