Gorges de l'Areuse. What a monumental spectacle! Our tour begins in Noiraigue, (pronounced Noiräg) right next to the public parking lot, (5 .- per day) and along the railway line. What begins rather unspectacularly at the beginning soon turns into a monumental natural spectacle of the roaring rushing kind. Both river and gorge now form a duet of numerous waterfalls, cascades, gorges, crevices, cracks, pools, pools, rapids and artificial landings . Our path is attached to the course of the river like a burdock and consists of a mix of asphalted streets or natural paths and paths. One or the other time we step on wooden walkways, go through small rock tunnels and sometimes steep staircases carved into the rock. The latter in particular require surefootedness. We cross the l'Areuse between Noiraigue and Boudry countless times over countless bridges, with the stone arch bridge at "Saut du Port" forming the centerpiece. If you don't have any food in your backpack, you will pass the two only places to stop at "Camp du Moulin". At the "Haus der Natur" there is a buvette for modest hikers to buy simple food, for those who like to eat and sleep a few meters further down, there is the venerable and beautifully situated hotel "La Truit". Those who want to have a picnic will find enough picturesque places or one or the other perfectly equipped picnic area. From here you can catch one of the rare glimpses of the "Creux du Van". An impressive rock massif nearby that is not entirely unlike the American Grand Canyon. Measured in Swiss standards, of course. Attention bathers. Here and there you get your money's worth. There are tons of quiet and harmless romantic spots that are suitable for a bath in clear water. In the last third of our hiking route, the Gorges de l'Areuse once again shows us its full potential. Millions of years old, deep crevasses criss-cross the rock and make our hikers' hearts beat faster with awe. Shortly before our destination in Boudry, the Val de Travers presents one of its greatest treasures. The lush green vineyards with their bulging grapes. What a sight! Arrived at the train station in Boudry, we board the train back to Noiraigue and indulge in what we have experienced. I wish you all many impressive moments in the open air.

Today I hike for the second time through the Areus Gorge NE, it was also called the wild gorge, now you can call it the quiet gorge, the Areuse has almost no water. I start in Noiraigue and finish in Boudry. This enchanting hiking trail follows the sometimes babbling, sometimes roaring watercourse of the Areuse. It leads over stone bridges, footbridges and stairs, through rocky narrow passages and along impressively rugged rock faces through the gorge, which is wonderfully cool, especially in midsummer. Which I did two years ago, it had a lot more water and I liked it a lot better.

Noiraigue - Areuse Gorge - Boudry The hike 🥾 through the dreamy Areuse Gorge begins in Noiraigue in the Val de Travers and leads over countless steps and bridges down to Boudry. Halfway through the route, we recommend a visit to the Restaurant de La Truite 🐟 in Champ-du-Moulin with many regional specialties. The trout are highly recommended. Take the SBB there, return with tram 215 (runs more frequently in the evening). The first 1.3 km next to the railway line, then another 850 m of buildings. After a good 5 km there is a kiosk a few meters further a restaurant. The most beautiful section is through the first part of the gorge. On the last 7 km it is also partly on driveways and roads.

the areuse gorge, the first half from noiraigue is nothing special apart from the stone bridge. the path was often wide and asphalted and I didn't particularly like it. after the delicious lunch at the hôtel de la truite (highly recommended), the path became narrower and rougher, leading over many narrow bridges and wooden walkways. I liked this part of the gorge very much.

A classic hike in the canton of Neuchâtel. From Noirague, we headed into the Areuse Gorge. After 3 km, we encountered a 500-meter detour. This detour is shown on the Switzerland Mobility website and appears to be in place for some time. Following the recent rain, the gorge was quite full. It was impressive to see the Areuse River roaring through the gorge with such force. The path was slippery in places due to the autumn leaves. Caution was advised. The hike ended in Boudry, where we strolled through the town and visited the castle.

A river, like a lucky bag. Whenever you think that's it, the Areuse turns it up again. Surprised, fascinated and charmed. And has been for over 100 years. In 1886 the association "Sentiers des Gorges de l'Areuse" was founded. Its goal: to maintain the paths, paths, stairs, railings and bridges along the Gorges de l'Areuse. And that's not a few. The course of the sometimes wild, sometimes tame river is crossed a total of 17 times on the hike from Noiraigue to Boudry - from the simple metal footbridge to the modern design bridge to the famous stone arch bridge at Saut de Brot. Sometimes you stroll comfortably along the wide bank of the river, sometimes you look anxiously down below where the water is almost no longer visible. The Areuse is a tributary of Lake Neuchâtel, it flows through the Val de Travers. The starting point of the hike is Noiraigue. Soon the path descends into the gorge. You pass a hydroelectric power station. It's the first of many. The water power of the Areuse has been used since the 14th century. Shortly thereafter, green, moss-covered stones glow mystically in the sluggish water. But appearances are deceptive: it follows the Saut de Brot, this point was impassable before the hiking trail was built in 1876. It leads over stairs and bridges, the Areuse seethes deep below in the gorge. After a short stretch through the forest you reach Champ-du-Moulin-Dessous. The Areuse is now wider and more tamed, just after the Pont de Vert there is a huge overhanging rock on which a small path leads steeply up. But the Areuse lures, it forces its way through a narrow gorge again, has eaten its way deep into the earth, the path is exposed and spectacular. After the Pont des Clées it gets quieter, a little later you can see the first houses of Boudry - and is almost a little wistful to leave the wildness behind.
