One of the most recommendable road bike tours in the Pustertal is the one on the Stallersattel, which is on the border between South Tyrol and East Tyrol. The landscape is absolutely unique and the cross-border round tour is quite a challenge, with almost 1,800 meters in altitude and 150 kilometers in length. With enough fat in your calves you will love this tour!

Starting from Monguelfo train station, or another place along the route, you initially ride along the Rienz and then along the Drau. You cross the Austrian border at Sillian and follow the perfect bike path through the Pustertal. In Lienz you can recharge your energy reserves before you drive to Huben in the wonderful Iseltal.

Then the long ascent to the 2,052 meter high Stallersattel begins. A dream view and a small hut await you at the top. You're also moving back to South Tyrol. The subsequent descent past Lake Antholz is a real treat in the Dolomites! Back in the valley, you can return to the starting point via Lake Olang.

The road connects the East Tyrolean Defereggental with the South Tyrolean Antholzertal and reaches its peak here at 2,052 meters. Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, slopes and small towns make this pass really worth driving. However, it is not open all the time. In summer it is open between 6 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. and on the Italian side the single-lane road is regulated by traffic lights, which only open in one direction for a quarter of an hour at a time.
