This route was planned by komoot.
The trail starts directly in the charming streets of Limone sul Garda. You'll begin by walking through the picturesque garden of Villa Boghi and alongside the San Giovanni stream before reaching the La Milanesa area, where the marked Trail 101 officially branches off.
While specific parking details aren't provided, you would typically look for public parking options within Limone sul Garda, as the trail begins directly from the town. Consider parking near the town center or closer to the Villa Boghi area to access the trailhead easily.
The terrain varies, starting with a scenic walk through Limone's streets and along the San Giovanni stream with small waterfalls. After La Milanesa, it transitions to a steep dirt road or mule track through the wild Valle del Singol. As you ascend higher, the path narrows and continues through the woods, requiring sure-footedness and sturdy hiking shoes.
This trail is considered difficult and demands good physical fitness due to its continuous steepness and significant elevation gain. You'll ascend approximately 1,000 to 1,100 meters from near lake level to the summit. While not technically difficult, sure-footedness is essential.
The estimated hiking time for this route is between 4 hours 50 minutes to 5 hours, covering a total distance of approximately 10.8 km to 11.3 km.
Along the way, you'll pass an ancient lime kiln (calchera) which offers a scenic resting point. The trail provides expansive views of Lake Garda from north to south, particularly from View of Limone sul Garda and Lake Garda and the summit of Cima Mughera, where you can admire Limone sul Garda, Monte Baldo, and even Sirmione in the distance. You'll also pass by the View of Limone sul Garda from the Church of San Benedetto early in the hike.
The trail is best enjoyed during seasons with pleasant weather, typically spring, early summer, and autumn, when temperatures are moderate. Avoid hiking during the hottest summer months or when conditions might make the steep ascent challenging, such as heavy rain or ice.
While specific regulations for dogs on this particular trail are not detailed, generally, dogs are allowed on hiking trails in the region. However, given the trail's difficulty, steep sections, and potential for narrow paths, ensure your dog is fit for such a strenuous hike and always keep them on a leash for their safety and that of other hikers and wildlife.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Sentiero Antonioli (Trail 101) to Cima Mughera. It is a public trail accessible to all hikers.
Yes, the route overlaps with sections of other trails. Notably, it covers a significant portion of the Limone sul Garda - Cima di Mughera trail (88%) and the Sentiero Monsignor Giovanni Antonioli (87%). It also briefly intersects with parts of the Bassa Via del Garda - Roberto Montagnoli and the Ciclovia del Garda.
Yes, a notable feature and excellent resting spot is the ancient lime kiln (calchera) located along the trail in the Valle del Singol. It offers benches where you can take a break, enjoy the views, and appreciate a piece of local history.
A wonderful tour directly from Limone. The tour is a bit strenuous (1km Hm) but you will be rewarded with wonderful views.
Beautiful hike despite the weather and being alone...she wasn't well and went back to the car. A bit tiring but it was worth it...and then the first snow of the season
Today I started in Limone at 7:15 a.m. and it was already 23 degrees. I completed the ascent to the Cima di Mughera via the "Senter de la Gresti", which was advertised as 4 hours. A relatively strenuous, demanding alpine hiking trail, some with small climbs. You gain altitude very quickly, but you have to be fit. You are constantly rewarded with impressive views. I missed that a bit on the descent via the "normal" route, and I was glad that I had chosen this route for the ascent. Ultimately, exhausted, it took me 3 hours to climb up. After a long break at the summit, which I sorely needed after about 1100 meters in altitude, I zigzagged again on the "more comfortable" hiking trail towards Limone. The Koomot time of 2 hours is wrong, I was on the road for about 5 hours.
