Kaserer Bild Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The Kaserer picture, named after the nearby Kaserer Hof, has always been a popular place of pilgrimage. The little church is right on Riedlerstraße, right on the back of the Riedler mountain near Steinegg. This area also belongs to the primeval settlements of South Tyrol (the hill fort "Streitmooser Köpfl" is in the immediate vicinity). The little church is a neo-Romanesque chapel and its present form dates from 1871. The ridge turret (small tower) was added in 1874. The chapel is very well preserved today, having recently been thoroughly renovated. Holy masses are held regularly during the summer months. In the church there is a beautiful, neo-Gothic altar with a portrait of Kaserer's mother. This image of the Mother of God originally hung on an old and mighty larch tree, which is said to have stood exactly where the little church stands today. There are several legends surrounding the image and the construction of the chapel itself. However, they all testify to the deep piety of those seeking help and their firm belief in the miracle work of the Kaserer mother.
