Van Gogh NP walking tour Tilburg

Follow in Vincent van Gogh's footsteps with this inspiring route in Tilburg and the surrounding area. The tour takes you past historic sites where Van Gogh himself once walked.

You'll begin your journey in the charming Piushaven harbor in Tilburg. This is where Van Gogh received his first drawing lessons at the age of 13 and where he lived for about a year and a half. As soon as you leave the city, you'll immediately find yourself surrounded by greenery. You'll soon arrive at the Moerenburg Water Purification Plant, a national monument, once the first biological water purification plant in the Netherlands. Be sure to stop at Huize Moerenburg, one of the first stone houses in Tilburg.

Afterward, you'll walk along the Korvelse Waterloop, a narrow, unpaved path along the waterway with ample greenery on both sides. For a refreshing drink, stop at Café Mie Pieters, a historic lunch café.

Continue your route along the Galgeven, which, at an impressive 16 hectares, is one of the largest fens in the Oisterwijk woods. You'll pass old monasteries and abbeys such as De Rendierhoeve and Abdij De Koningshoeven, where you can enjoy La Trappe beers.

From the 25-meter-high De Nieuwe Herdgang observation tower, you'll then have a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside and the city. Before returning to your starting point in Piushaven, you'll pass the Willem II City Palace, where Van Gogh studied for two years at the HBS (Higher Secondary School).
