Hiking

The tour start is between Eichstätt and Landershofen: From the parking lot you follow the markings through the Hessental. A visit to the figure field by Alois Wünsche-Mitterecker is worthwhile. The path leads you on to a mighty linden tree with a small chapel near the Häringhof. Here you choose the path to the right towards the Ziegelhof. Immediately at the Ziegelhof you go to the right, after about 350 meters left through the fields and then right again towards the forest.

Through forest and field you hike past the so-called Black Cross on the pilgrimage route, one of the oldest crossroads in Bavaria, to Buchenhüll. You leave the Way of the Cross at the Lourdes Grotto and continue to the Sacred Heart Grotto. There the path leads you right along the edge of the forest. Through the forest downhill you get to the Pfünzer Holzlege.

There you go right on the Altmühltal-Panoramaweg, come to a resting bench with a beautiful view of the Roman fort Pfünz Castra Vetoniana and walk in the beautiful juniper heather in the Altmühlleiten nature reserve towards Landershofen.

Above the settlement you leave the panorama path and turn left to the forest kindergarten, go to the Dorfweg Am Haselberg through the middle of the village, turn right at the Herrmannsleite and go over the football field up the hill and come back directly to the hiking car park.

Sculpture Field in the Hessental

Highlight • Monument

The Hessental lies in a gentle hollow on the slopes between Eichstätt and Landershofen: Alois Wünsche-Mitterecker, a sculptor from Eichstätt, created a captivating memorial against war and violence here.

78 larger than life sculptures crouch, rear up and crawl on the artist's figure field - a strange contrast to the barren Jura landscape of the Hessental.

Mariahilf Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The “Mariahilf Chapel” is located here. A very beautiful painting adorns this. There is a small bench next to it for making a snack.

Linden Avenue

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The linden trees of the Buchenhüller Forest line a 400-year-old Way of the Cross with 14 stations from the Roman road via the Maria and Josef Grotto to the Roman Catholic pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary in Buchenhüll.

In 1850/51, priest Josef Simon took care of restoring the Way of the Cross, which only had 6 stations.

In 2009, the Eichstätt Forestry Office cleared the linden avenue and replaced the missing linden trees.

The Roman Catholic pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary was built around 1200, the nave was built in 1616 and the upper floor of the tower in 1700.

November 8, 2022,Altmühltal - Schlaufe 14 bei Eichstätt
Nice tour through the juniper heath in the Altmühltal.

The field of figures by the sculptor Alois Wunsche-Mitterecker is impressive, as is the 400-year-old Stations of the Cross with the linden avenue.

Easy hike without much effort. Well suited to think about God and the world. Start at the Hessental hiking car park. After a short detour to the figure field by the artist Alois Wünsche-Mitterecker. An impressive memorial against war and violence. Continue on dirt roads, enjoy the sun, past field crosses and chapels again and again. On the way to …

Very nice tour for a Sunday afternoon to switch off and clear your head.

Today, with cold temperatures and lots of sunshine, I chose the dream loop 14 in the Altmühltal. It was okay, but there were very few highlights along the way. It was nice that everything was frozen and there were winter vibes.❄️☀️

Today we stayed dry to say goodbye to the wonderful Altmühltal. The sun 🌞 showed itself from its best side and accompanied us on our shortest tour on the dream loop near Eichstätt.

Since everything never goes as planned and non-existent parking spaces, rain or empty gas bottles can get in the way, we still had 3 planned tours left for our last day. My Göga decided on the TraumSchlaufe 14 near Eichstätt.
This tour starts at the parking lot at the figure field, which impressed me a lot. Here you can let …

With an unsettled weather forecast, I headed back to Pfünz today, not to the impressive Roman fort, but towards Eichstätt to the equally fascinating sculpture field.

The hike began with a wonderful mix of sun and clouds, following narrow paths through the beautiful dry grassland slopes of the Altmühl Valley. The first pasqueflowers were already in bloom.
