Hiking

If you're looking for a scenic, challenging mountain hike, the circular tour to the Zirbitzkogel, the highest peak in the Seetal Alps, is just right for you. The starting point is the Sabathy Hut, from where you'll gradually work your way up into the impressive mountain world. The trail leads you past the idyllic Winterleiten Lakes—perfect spots for relaxing breaks by the crystal-clear waters.

You'll soon reach open heights that offer breathtaking views over the Mur Valley. Especially in autumn, the tour is a special spectacle of colors that makes the ascent a true experience.

Surefooting is required at the summit of the Zirbitzkogel. But you'll be rewarded with a 360° panorama that you won't soon forget. And of course, a final break in the hut of the same name is a must before you return to the starting point.

Zirbitzkogel summit

Highlight • Summit

Wonderful view and beautiful summit cross. From up here you can see endless distances when the weather is nice. The Zirbitzkogel is well attended, which is why it is usually difficult to find a place at the Zirbitzkogel shelter.

You can choose from different routes to the Zirbitzkogel. Whether easy or strenuous. There is something for everybody. The route from the Waldheimhütte is particularly beautiful.

More sun and less wind would have been nice. Still, a super relaxed ride.💚

From the Winterleiten Hut, we follow the Schreibersteig trail uphill past the Scharfes Eck to the Zirbitzkogel. Once again, we are denied a view from this summit, and the first small gaps in the clouds only appear on the descent. With a short detour to the Geierkogel, we still manage to snag a nice vantage point over the Lavantsee. Via the Linder Hut, we then descend to the Almrausch Hut and climb back up through a magnificent pine forest to the starting point and a four-course GourmetAlps menu.
