It's actually starting. A few months ago it was just an idea and now I'm putting it into practice: cycling around the island of Bornholm. From Rønne I follow cycle route 10, which marks the official island circular route. It goes slightly up and down through a forest, on roads and finally along the coast. Everything is super developed and sufficiently marked 😃👍 An interesting detour is a former kaolin works. The former opencast mine is open and can be entered at any time. A landscape similar to the Grand Canyon can be seen here directly on the Baltic Sea. Really fascinating. I meet fossil collectors just below the kaolin works on the beach. They tell me they're looking for Jurassic fossils here. I wish them the best of luck because I have different goals today. The ups and downs are getting noticeably more extreme the further I cycle north. 17% is a blatant number, but as a descent it's crazy fun. Nevertheless, you should have good brakes here. Downhill on tight corners are not the exception, but the rule. At Jons Kapel I have to push "donkey". Only a few can manage this extreme incline. Once at the top, however, I still have to overcome more inclines on the way before I finally get to the parking lot, where I can take a look at the Hammershus castle ruins. Continue or make a detour to the castle? I take detours and end the recording (hence part 1) and start with a little hiking tour... 😉 *click*
Yesterday I took the catamaran ferry from Ystad to Rönne at over 60 km/h. I drove straight to the first campsite in Rönne and met the two cycling brothers Till and Volker from HH there. Volker gave me lots of good tips for the island, as he has been here many times (>30 times 👍). I then cycled to almost all of the sights on the west coast. Some of them were directly along the sea, past very small fishing villages. As soon as you deviate a little from the coastline, you can expect gradients of up to 17%. Met a lot of hikers and rock climbers on the Himalayan cliffs, an old granite quarry. Thank you, Till and Volker, for the great exchange of experiences yesterday👍. The island has something very special about it😍.
A pedestrian and bicycle route :) The steed waited politely first under one, then under the other lighthouse - while I was walking through the windy hills :) my-oh-my. But I won't repeat myself - there are gites here. You have to take your bike and come. Until 15.09 Polferries has a "crazy bicycle promotion": a return ticket from Świnoujście to Ystad for the price of one. Next season, there is supposed to be a new direct Kołobrzeg-Ronne (I don't know which carrier). The island is small, super friendly for a bicycle trip with the family. Solo is also possible. It can be easy - it can be intense - whatever you prefer. The weather at this time of year is a dream come true. 22 degrees, sun, wind, no rain (mostly). There are a lot of tourists, but not too many, it is easy to find yourself alone with the Island in the blink of an eye. I would take it. P.S. The Bornholm chapter is closed. Tomorrow is the epilogue - the fate is still hanging - whether to chill in Świnoujście or maybe in this newly discovered Szczecin? Or to push the pedals and do some looping before the return train? Are there any showers available in Świnoujście? And luggage storage? Does anyone know? I'll ask Google, but after all, local advice is local advice :)
Sacred beautiful discovery with a cycle route that goes around the island and beautiful landscapes. A first little bit when leaving the boat today.
